97 Bird, Candy Mandarin Orange Paintjob-NEW PICS
Just throwin out some pictures of my steal of a car. 12 coats total, 9 hours of painting, too many fumes and a few beverages later, and this is what I've got. I'm not exactly a photographer by any means, and these were taken last night after the clear was applied. Once I get this put back together i'll get it out in the sun for some pretty pictures. But you'll get the idea from what pictures I do have.

The materials for paint ran me about 600$ total, all the body parts i've put on the car (some new, some used) about 450$, so I'm still at a grand total of a bargain in my eyes.
It's just a Formula, so it's not a high-dollar item I don't believe. However, SOM paint didn't exist in the paint stores books that i looked at, at least the SOM i was looking for. I was looking for an orange color chip, but didn't see a single one. Now that I've noticed a few more SOM cars on here, they all look nearly red when they aren't in the daylight, so maybe that was my problem? This car is orange even at night, so the real shocker will be when the sun finally shines again and I pull it back out of the garage.
I think i'm going to call the color "Pull Me Over Orange" instead of Candy Mandarin, it sounds a bit more manly

how about "classic hugger with a twist?"

I have an idea this color's a bit more wild than the original hugger orange, and I have an idea that it will also attract a bit more attention, hopefully for the good. As long as I drive like a whiteman, I should be in good shape in john the lawman's eyes.

I would love to see it in person! I would love to paint my car a different color but, I am always thinking of the value and if a color change will depreciate it.

This aftermarket fender is really giving me the shits. Wetsanded it all down tonight, and reprimed it with 2k urethane surfacer. Low and behold, the fucker started doin the whole 'spiderweb' type cracking AGAIN, but this time not in the same areas as before, but overtop of the gold/orange/clear overspray from the first painting. Kinda starting to piss me off, so, here we go again...

Did you try using alcohol to remove trash and oils from your hands? I hope this works for you.

Yeah, we use wax/grease remover every time before painting parts, then tack rag 'em and so forth. However, after 2 more failed attempts at getting paint to stick to this piece of shat, it freaking stuck. Wetsanded it, used a clean rag with water to clean the residue off, and that was it, epoxy primed it, and it stuck, wetsanded that smooth, cleaned it again with just water and air and then shot the base, SCORE! So i've got a painted fender, again, and this time its giong to be OK! FINALLY. I was to the point of returning the junk fender and ordering a USED one, but now i don't need to. Expect pictures in a week or so.

When i picked the color i went to the store with orange in mind. I was hashing it out between this and a candy 'winefire' (maroon in color) and it was amazing, winefire over gold base looked (best i can describe) like one of those chrome-red christmas tree oranament/bulb things. It was an awesome color, but i chose the orange instead.
