10bolt build up?
ok, let me start by sayin i am really confused, so help me out if you can, i jus bought a set of bfg drag radial 2's so this topic is important to me, can a 10 bolt be built up so it doesnt break? or do you have to go with a 12 bolt in order to maintain your rear? if a 10 bolt can be built up, where could you have it done or where could you get the parts? any info would help me greatly

generally everyone says not to waste $ on your 10bolt. Just save for the 12bolt. But i think a rear end girdle would help it last a little longer.

do you have a link to such a part, i am assuming it will strengthen the 10 bolt.

i read an article in gm high tech saying that it will help it last longer/ hold up better.
They are on many websites and from many companies. But i think they are all pretty similar.

With an M6 car running slicks you are almost guarenteed to have to buy an aftermarket rear. The A4 cars are a lot more gentle on the rear. There are some running in the 9's with a 10 bolt behind an A4 trans. If you are running big hp with an M6 you are better off to go with a 9" because even the 12 bolt will break.

You can build a 10 bolt to hold up to approx 425 RWHP.
You need to Weld the axle tubes install a good Carrier, Gears, Axles(31 spline) and a T/A Girdle. They did it in a previous issue of High Performance Pontiac Magazine. And it was well under $1000.

If I were you and running the A4 I wouldn't worry about the rear until it started making noises or giving me problems.

Bright Rally Red- 01 Camaro SS M6
I am running just north of 500rwhp & 500rwtq with the 10bolt M6 on Nitto DR's.....I run Motive 3.90's with the T/A cover. I keep the 60's nice and soft 1.8's and that allows me to run 11.4's @ 127. Oh, I don't powershift either. I have also run 4.10's and 4.30's in this rear.......broke 4 teeth off the 4.10 ring gear when I got some really bad wheel hop, learned a lesson!!!
Keep in mind I leave the line just above idle 1100-1400rpm and back out of the clutch "kinda" quick.

red- 99 Z28 SS convertible
ok. thats why my 'vert SS and Ed's 'vert at 3850 w/ driver are in the 10's w/ 10 bolts. and holding up. his is stock, mine has solid spacer, richmond gears, new Eaton posi, LPW girdle. stock axles and running slicks! goes to show that an A4 w/ 500+ rwhp will live.
im not telling A4 guys to not buy a better rear end, just that theres living proof that the 10 bolt will go a for quite a while.
