    3.73's or 4.10's?

Im trying to decide on which to put in my 01 WS6 (M6). Keep in mind this IS a daily driver (for now, at least till i find another DD) And i dont want to get bad gas mileage either.

I had an 00 GT with 4.10s and i absolutely LOVED the way it pulled!! But i didnt like shifting so much. Also they had an ANNOYING A$$ whine to them!

With 4.10's what rpm are you in at 65mph in 6th gear? I do alot of highway driving to get to and from work.

So will it feel the same as my GT did or a lil different cause I have a 6th gear to go into?

Also will i feel a noticeable amount of difference? Also how does the stock rear ends hold up to 4.10's?

Oh and BTW this will be a nitrous car until im finished with my custom fab turbo set up.

Thanks for the help ahead of time!!

y not just keep your 3.42's????? i have 400 rwhp and there no way id want anything steeper.....its hard putting 1st gear to the ground as it is..and like u said i dont wanna be shifting constantly.....i think gears are a waste of money unless its mostly a drag car OR u dont have a lot to spend and u want a cheap seat of the pants mod......and when i say waste i mean going from 3.42s to 4.10s in a street car.....by no means should anyone with an auto keep those shit ass 2.73s lol

The general rule of thumb for a naturally aspirated car is 4.10 for M6 and 3.73 for an A4. However, when you add nitrous and/or a turbo, the rules change. The gear should be higher (lower numerically). You might be happier with your stock 3.42 when you do that.

If you are eventually going Turbo I would not go higher than 3.73. But it all depends on what you want to do with the car. Here is sort of the rule of thumb 3.42 and 3.73 work well for Road Course and Auto-X; and 4.10 for Drag racing. I have 3.73 and they are great to daily drive, On 6th gear I'm at 2,000rpm when going 80mph on the highway (did I say 80? I meant 65 ).

I have had 4.10's for 4 years.....depends who installs them. Great for street racing, but I use Nittos all year round!

DTS (drive train specialist) told me to stick with a 373 or 342 for street.

Go 4:10's. 3:73's wont make enough difference to even bother doing. I've had 4:10's for 4 or 5 years now. Gas mileage did not even change a whole mile per gallon so don't let that be an issue.
