Front door speaker Infinity question
I see that the Infinity 62.7i's are clearly the choice for the door replacements, but why is it on Crutchfield it says these speakers won't fit the car?? What about any other Infinity speaker?? Has anyone tried any of them out? Is the reason for choosing the 62.7i's because of the 2 ohm impedance they have??

My life is a- Ben Stiller movie.
might be because they are considerd a 6.5" speaker and we have 6.75" [aka "oversized 6.5"] mounts.

I have no idea why they say they don't work. There are adaptors included with the 62.7i so they fit in any car. But they fit so well in the doors they are as good as oem. It is almost like they made them just for the f body. Depth is the same, fit perfect, and 2 ohm like stock. The tweeter is 2 ohm also, but I have never heard of a single issue.

I used the Infinity Reference 6010cs 6 1/2" component
speakers both in the front and in the sail panels.
In the front, at the recomendation of one of the high tech
installers, I mounted the tweeters low on the wendshield
posts and angled them toward the windshield where the sound reflected off of the glass and crossed to the seat
on the other side. I used the surface mounts that came with the speakers. This worked out great.
On the sail panels, I set the tweeters at the -3db setting
on the crossover so as to not have the trebble too loud
when coming from the back. This also worked out fine.
The front main speakers went right into the doors with no
problems at all. On the rear, I had to drill some new
holes and use sheet metal screws to mount the main
speakers. Again, I used the surface mounts for the tweeters.
These are fed by an Alpine MRP-F450 which is 100w
RMS x 4 mounted inside the spare tire. Also, there is
an Alpine MRV-100M which is 100w RMS x 1 feeding
a JL 10W3D4 sub in an enclosure in the drivers side
well of the trunk. The mono amp is mounted on the rear wall of the trunk as is a 12 disk CD changer on the
other side of the trunk rear wall. Where they are
located, the T-tops will still fit in their storage location.

Very nice...
I just put the 62.7i's in the front doors and am quite pleased with the sound. I like how the crossover Infinity gives you is not needed and they are a direct replacement. Also, what are these sail panels everyone is talking about? I thought they were the little pieces of plastic that cover the mounting bolts for the side mirrors but I don't see what they have to do with speakers.

No, no, the sail panels are where the back seat arm rests are and have the back seat speakers in them. That is if you have
a Monsoon system. The Monsoon system also has speakers in the rear hatch area for six all together. I am not sure what the standard radio has for speakers.

I have a Monsoon system...so why is it those are called "sail panels"? In the Crutchfield instructions, they refer to that piece I mentioned as a sail panel.
