    4.10's to low??

I was wondering when i put my 4.10's in next week. A few people told me 4.10's are to low for the cars powerband and that i'd be better off with 3.73's. They also said I will lose quite a bit of pull at higher speeds. What do you guys think

Those gears are better down lower. 1/4 mile and thats about it, plus you gas mileage will go even lower.

I have 4.10's in my M6, so I can speak from personal experience here

I have 17" wheels, tires are approximately 26" I believe.

Around town, your fuel economy will stay about the same. You just have to shift much sooner. You'll find that when you take off, if you shift at 2K RPM after each gear (for fuel economy), you will go through the gears rather quickly. You can usually shift to 2nd and then skip over to 5th though, if you're on flat ground for best fuel economy.

I go into 6th at about 40MPH, which is good if you drive on roads where the speed limit is 40-55MPH. For reference, 6th gear at 35MPH is 1000RPM.

As for the highway, its not a drastic difference. You will lose a couple MPG's though. With the stock 3.42's, you'd be turning about 1400RPM at 65MPH. With 4.10's, you end up turning about 1800RPM. At 80MPH I'm at 2200RPM, and at 90MPH its 2400RPM. Not bad at all, really.

My gears top out as follows:

    1st: 42MPH
    2nd: 65MPH
    3rd: 87MPH
    4th: 112MPH
    5th: 153MPH

Overall I think those are pretty good numbers.

I say go with the 4.10's, unless you do a ton of highway driving.

    what transmission? auto or manual.

i've had both gears (3.73 and 4.10) in my black car automatic. 4.10 will be too much, especially when you start creating more hp. on motor, it would shift into 4th right through the traps. on the bottle, it would shift into 4th about 60ft before the traps. this is on 26" tall tires.
