    Headlight Motor Problems

My headlight is screwed up on my 98 ws6, when I turn the lights on there fine but when I put them down the one side makes a grinding noise like the gear is stripped out that lowers it down. Is this the headlight motor thats no good? It also makes the lights go up when I lock the car with the remote thats not normal. Could it be the headlight motor that is screwing this all up

If it is grinding when you put them down and causing your headlights to flip up when you lock the car it means the gear in the motor is stripped. Had it happen to me. However you can fix it for nothing. the headlight only uses half of the gear in the housing to raise and lower the headlight. There is a link somewhere that i will have to find that details how to fix it. Remove your headlight's outside cover and the black shroud around the headlamps. then you need to remove the arm that is connected to the motor and rotate the motor 180 degrees with the manual adjust, you will be able to tell because the spindle the arm connects to has a flat spot on it. once you have rotated 180, reconnect the arm and reassemble everything else. If done correctly, your motor will be as good as new! (Until it strips out again, and then it needs the gear replaced for sure)

is it easy enough to take the gear right out and just replace the gear rather than spend a ton of money on the whole motor. Id rather do it now during the winter while its in storage and get it fixed for good. What size is the gear? And where could I get one? Thanks again

    Cool

Moving the gear is the way to go. I have done several with great success.

Here is the link to fix it or order a metal gear. Good luck!

i wouldnt turn the plastic gear as it will happen again real soon anyways while you have it apart just replace with the metal gear then glue it all back together and never worry about it again. i just replaced my headlights today with an HID kit and i striped one of mine so i just ordered 2 sets of gears to complete the install done it before on an f-body and its really easy just time concuming GOOD LUCK

    No Luck

I tryed rotating the gear with no luck, the motor decided to stop working then, its getting power its not spinning anymore though. I tryed to take the gear out and look at it now I cant get the thing back together I tryed epoxying it back together and it fell apart. Any reason why Im not getting it to spin anymore.????????

you have to use a special epoxy and let it sit at least a day without using it and make sure you clean it of all the way. if you order the metal gears it comes with everything you need

I need 2 gears for my left and right headlights. Can anyone point to the person who sell them? Everyone is talking about him, but no one knows who he is.
