Welcome to the forums! And welcome from another AZ member! Post this under "electronics". And what is the purpose of turning off the automatic headlights if i may ask? Im not sure how to on the z28, but my old 2001 s10 had a little secrete not sure why but if i turned the dome light on/off 5 times the car would "beep" twice and it would shut off. Haha scarred me the first time cause i was on the road and they went off. and i didnt know what happened. But im sure someone here can tell you how to turn them off if theres a way (temporarily)

welcome! While the car is off pull up on the hand brake just until you feel the first notch(not click) start the car. Your hand break will be up just enough to say brake on the dash and not be applied, but that will keep your lights off. It should be pulled up so lightly that you can push it back down without pushing the button.

Welcome to the board. If you want to turn them off temporarily pull up 1 notch on the emergency brake handle before starting the car. They'll come back on after fully releasing the brake.

Where about in AZ are you? I'm active duty Army and going through AIT at Ft. Huachuca until October. I don't really know much about the area, are there any drag strips around?
The MP's appreciate it when we turn the headlights off coming into post (gotta love 4:30AM PT LOL), on my wife's Buick century you can turn the lights to the parking light setting and it turns off the automatic lights.

In a Dodge you switch the lights on and off via a dial on the dashboard. What a concept. That auto lighting "feature" and the hump in the floor are my only issues with the car. Course you forget about that as soon as you hit the gas.
