OMG - car wash destroyed my antenna

    Hey folks-

Took my car in to get it washed at the local hand wash shop today. When they called me up to get the car I didn't even look the car over because I've been to these guys before and they have always done top notch work ($30 wash). They happily turned over the car and didn't say a word to me...

Anyways, I drove off and headed to work. I get out of the car to find that the damn antenna is snapped off right above the lowest section.

I called the dealership to find out the part is $179 list from GM.

I then called the carwash who had to have a manager return my call at a later time.

Anyone out there know where I can get a quality replacement auto antenna unit?

So pisses me off that they didn't even have the balls to say anything...

    PN is 10402860

GM parts direct lists it at $93 + shipping. Peachy.

Car washes, be they hand or automatic all suck. I had my SS washed when new and the guy swung the passenger door open all the way to clean the inside. I didn't think nothing of it till a few days later when my wife gets in and says my door is scratched at the lip. Those bastards never said a word about it and it was to late to complain about it.
I also had idoits drop the hose on my car(daily-driver) while rinsing and low and behold a dent on the topside that looks like hail damage. Never a word about it either. Makes you want to go postal on the place.

    sucks, oh well...

sounds like a lesson learned. now you know that the next time it comes to washing your car, you do it yourself and save yourself a world of hurt...

if not, i bet this makes you remember to turn off your radio so your antenna retracts prior to washing it...

Guess so. Too bad they left the keys in, the car running and the radio on all the way thru the wash.

Sounds normal to me....make sure you turn the radio off next time -- can't blame them exactly, because I'm sure they have warning signs or it's in some writing somewhere protecting them. If they turned the radio on for some reason, just remove the faceplate next time. Why the hell was a automatic car wash $30 anyway? Wash the car yourself next time -- its nice out.

Its rare that I sent it thru a wash, but I'd driven it about 750mi and it was covered in bug goo. I eventually called back myself and spoke to a manager who basically didn't care adn spoke of the signs "protecting" them from liability...

Guess this will be my one and only $150+ car wash - Just hate taking a loss for something dumb like this.

BTW, hell yes I can blame them. They always turn off the car before sending it through... today they had "temps" running that side (so the mgmt confessed) and they left the car running when they sent it. Had they turned it off like normal, no damage.

Yep, Autozone lists it @ $50. Wonder if its worth going that route, or if I'd just be better off getting the GM replacement part...

For the extra $30 go with the GM replacement. AC Delco is much better quality than any power antenna Autozone carries.
