How to install white A4 shifter overlay? (Solved)

    Edit: Solved. See below.

I have installed the overlays for everything else, but I'm not sure about the shifter. The panel can be removed, but the overlay comes with the panel. I didn't completely remove the panel because I would have to take off the shifter, which I didn't have time to do tonight. I'm guessing I will have access to the shift housing once I have the panel completely disconnected and removed.

Is that right or is there more involved?

Two 7mm bolts take off the console top and 4 7mm bolts remove it.

Should be easy as hell to do.

Yeah, I removed the console top but you can't get access to the gauge since it is included inside of it.

Here's a picture of the shifter on the left: http://i40.tinypic.com/e5igxt.jpg. I don't think you can just stick it over the gauge because as you can see it's extended on the ends.

I put one on my car took 15 min or so.
1st small flat head to pop the clip out of the shifter so youcan get it off.(easy)
2nd open the armrest and take out the 2 bolts under the change holder in front. then just pop the console off and slide it back till the front clears the dask.(put the car in d,3,2, or 1 makes it easier to slide.
3rd flip it upside down unplug the light andundo the 4 bolts. ( you can the pop it out, need to use a little pressure.)
Last clean and install overlay. then just put it back toghter.
Shouldn't take more that 15 to 20 min, depends how organized your tool set it. Took me more time to find the socket than install the overlay.

I follow you for everything but the first. Where is the clip on the shifter that you pop? I thought it was a bunch of small screws to undo it. I guess that's my only issue, removing the shifter lol.

The shifter comes out with a simple screwdriver. It has a staple in the front of it.

Alright. The shifter was extremely easy like you guys said. I just used a flathead to remove the clip (no screws at all). It's on the stick-side facing the dash for anyone wondering, which is why I couldn't see it last night. I installed the overlay today. Thanks guys as always.

Well, I got everything installed and I realized today that after I installed the speed/tach overlay, the speedometer needle no longer works. It resets with the tach but is stuck at zero no matter what speed I drive. Everything else works fine. Any ideas?

OMG. Did you move it some how? Did you get the 'no needle remove' type? or did you get the ones where you have to remove the needle?

Think about how you either put it on and how you bumped it or remember how you removed the needle if that were the case.

It was needle-less. You just slip them over the needles. What should I do? I think I will make another post since this is not really on topic for this one.
