The V-6 car gets good gas mileage without doing anything else to it. Keep your foot out of it . I drove a 98 V-6 for 4 years. One thing I noticed is that for each grade of gas I went up on I would increase gas mileage about 1 m.p.g. So for example to go from 87 octane to 91 or 93 would increase my gas mileage about 2 mpg without doing anything else. I tried this several differnt ways for a couple years so I'm sure they would all get similar results. If you track your mileage closely you'll see the results. My theory was that the knock sensors would let the timing advance giving more power-which translated to better mileage. Incidentally my car was a 5-speed stripper (few options) so it got great mileage.

Intake and exhaust will probably get you some small gains in gas mileage, as well as a little more power. Other then that, accelerate slowly.

If your worried about gas-mileage then don't bother modding it too much as you are wanting. The faster it gets the heavier your foot gets!
