I think this was good luck. Or at least avoided some bad luck. This morning I was on my way to see my parents,a 400 mile round trip. I stopped at the Quicky Mart and this guy started talking to me about my car and the hoodscoop. So I popped the hood to show him the aircleaner setup and what did I see but a radiator hose that had split and swelled up to the size of a football. No shit. So much for my trip, I put new hoses, belt, thermostat, and coolant flush today. And found that my ECT sensor was broken off which explained the check engine light. I guess the old girl wanted some attention today instead of another flogging.
