    Cam size?

Ok I'm trying to figure out which one of these two cams (below) will provide the most power. I was told the 224/228 would make less power. I don't know anything about them so I looking for everyone else's .02. Thanks

    224/228 .581/.588 112

I am not sure as to whether one will deliver more power over the other or not but I would think the split duration cam is not necessary if you are not running forced induction. I would go with either a 228/228 .588/.588 cam or a 224/224 .561/.561 run it on a 112 or 114 LSA, I am a N/A guy though I dont plan on Forced induction in my future. just my .02$

your single pattern cams make more mid range. they have a narrow rpm range.

the split pattern cams have a longer rpm range. they don't make as much peak, but carry it out longer. which is why you never see a single pattern cam in a factory assembled motor.

look at it this way, would you rather have a short penis, or a long penis?

    its all about the girth

buddy of mine just put a 224/227 in his 5.3 cam only ecsb truck. he's still on stock converter and didn't notice much downlow loss. it runs pretty good. it has the same lift as the 224/228 you listed. i vote for split duration

You need to specify your engine and what is done to it.
One cam will act completely different in 2 different motors.
That is why you can get a much better gain when doing a cam swap by getting one ground to your engine and exactly what your trying to accomplish.

If you spend a half hour or so doing some searches with the search in the tool bar you will find MANY links to tech articles that will help educate you on cam specs and there functions on the performance.
Don't be afraid of the bottle!!! Be afraid of your tune!!!

I will be running a split cam. the specs on my cam are 228I 238E and 595 lift on both with a 112 LSA. I Chose this cam after doing some research with the head tech at Crane. He said it would make great midrange power and travel all the way up through the rpm range.

Do you remember was it Tony? He is the man over their on the LS tip. He has came out with like 20 new grinds for the LS motors that most don't know about.
He is a good guy and spent MANY hours on the dyno with those new grinds.

ok here is the setup I'm going with (if this helps):

CNC Stage 2 heads 59 cc
    cam-224/228 .581/.588 112
    224/224 .581/.581 112
    ceramic hooker lt's
    hooker y pipe
I've got a couple other suspension mods, tires, and other mods to go along with this. I was told I could be getting into the 11's. True?

i would go with the the 224/224 .581/.581 112 cam. i have that exact same cam only on a 114 lsa.you will easily be in the 11s if you can hook. im sure i am now with my new tires and im cam only along with some supporting mods.
