Descreening the Maf
Are there any negative effects or things that can happen from descreening the maf? I've heard that it's not recommended for street cars and also to not mess with it at all...

What about port and polishing?

The MAF is a fragile piece and unless you really know what you are doing, don't mess with it. There are aftermarket MAF's & TB's available, although $$, will save you the headache of trashing your OEM pieces.

Bad Idea, stock MAF easily supports 500HP without becomming a restriction. After that get the Z06 Maf and program in the Tables. Without the screen your A/F reading will be more random and harder to tune

So is there even a use or hp gain from getting say a SLP MAF?

according to them SLP MAF adds 2.7HP and 2.8TQ the extra flow is not worth it, dyno numbers change like that pull to pull. The SLP is junk, espically since those have a resistor in them and use that to translate readings the maf would normally put out.
On the dyno over at SpeedINC in chicago those aftermarket MAFs are frowned upon because you can't do a proper tune with them. The best way to go is with the z06 maf, a harness, and programming in those tables that the aftermarket MAFs would rather fudge numbers for using a resistor. Even then it's overkill unless you're going for a 90/90 setup and are over 500HP to really see a difference on the dyno that I doubt you will even feel.Last edited by MadSeason; 12-15-2005 at 10:53 AM.

so I shouldn't even mess with the MAF unless I'm 500hp or over?

nope, i think people do it because it's something simple that can be done in 15 mins or less. that money can be spent elsewhere and get more HP per dollar

like what I don't know what to do now other then full exhaust haha .I was going to do SLP MAF and some sort of aftermarket TB.

Work on the suspension, get that power to the ground, with complete aftermarket setup running on my car I got a 1.9 60 foot on balding street tires. Can't wait to see what I'll get with my nittos in the spring. You have a 99, look into the z06 intake manifold. That and a port/polished tb will be worth some good gains

Descreening the MAF, in and of itself, results in virtually no gain. Porting and polishing it is where you can gain power (especially with proper tuning), and to do so requires descreening. It's not complicated, but unless you know what you're doing, it's best to leave it to professionals.

a lid, full exhaust, and a ported throttle body will flow as much air as you can deal with. Don't fvck with the MAF! LOL
Get a better intake manifold, eventually, but first do the longtubes!
