4.3 V6 question :)
Okay so I have a 4.3 Xtreme and I was just wondering if it would be a good idea to get rid of the stock fan and go with an e-fan. Are they worth it? Im not looking for horsepower really. I just noticed when I was juicing the truck up with P143a (freeon) that my fan was throwing REALLY HOT air at me. If I do get one it will probably be one of those doubles or w/e. Do they help better when engine heat? As far as after i shut the truck off will they still keep going?
What are the pros and cons?
Thanks for any help!

there arent any cons. electric fans are always better. they dont rob power off the engine, they can be wired into a switch so u can turn them on anytime u want or even kep it on, and their smaller (thinner rather).
as for the hot air blowing at u thats what its supposed to do. the hot air is the heat being pulled off of the radiator.
id suggest geting a pusher fan (mounts on front of radiator and pushes air past rather than pulls) it will reduce engine bay clutter, and 4.3 s-10s are cluttered, they need all the help they can get

I was running a taurus Efan on my Xtreme and it worked great. Those engine bays are cluttered pretty bad..It was a pita putting headers on mine. They are fun trucks and you can make them run pretty good if you play your cards right.
I lost mine in Katrina..got around 3' of salt water over the roof... ran a 13.22@102 1/4 before she went swimming tho, spraying the house down

i have a 4.3 in my truck... their alright but they dont have any technology in them and they dont make a whole lot of parts for em.
gm knew they were getting rid of those engines soon so they didnt bother putting any of the technology in em like they did the 3800s
they are torqy sobs though

I love my 4.3..its a tough little motor, bottlefed98 thats a beautiful truck..its rare to see the single cab bubble butt Xtremes nowadays.
Was it hard to wire in the E-Fan and did it help it run cooler?
Also, did it mount good or do you have to rig it?
Heres mine

nice truck,I miss mine. That pic was taken as soon as the water went down. Its nobodys fault but mine tho.It was left parked about 300 yards from mobile bay.
I mounted mine with some universal mounting rods from the parts store. It didnt really help it run any cooler but it did free up a few extra ponys. If you really want to wake that truck up get a good tune.

What all would they have to do as far as tuning?
I feel like the truck has some "hidden power" in it..i just feel like it has so much more than it puts out.

a cam, computer tune, and gears will take care of that

what would be a good cam? something useful for daily driving as well..btw its an A4 (maybe a stall?)

the cam i got these specs from i dont think will fit the 4.3... but these specs would work well on a 4.3
Basic Operating RPM Range: 2,500-6,000
Intake Duration: 284
Exhaust Duration: 292
Intake Valve Lift: 0.509 in.
Exhaust Valve Lift: 0.528 in.
the problem with the 4.3s is the power ban is stuck so low in the rpms
although u may not gain a whole lot of hp... getting the rpms in a more effective position will do it a lot of good
its been a while since ive researched parts for these engines
i think stock cam specs are
intake duration: 185
exhaust duration: 195
lift: .420in
depending on how serious u want to race a stall prob will be more trouble than its worth and it will definetly reduce ur gas mielage
im prety sure stock stall is 1500 i wouldnt go any more than 3500 if u do put one in
but gears by far will give you the most noticible gain id do either 3.73 or 4.10s
and put a shift kit in the trans (a real trans pack not a computer one)
i used to have big plans on fixing my truck up, but i decided to go with a car... im working on getting a camaro/ta to put a carbed 383 inLast edited by drewhenderson13; 05-03-2007 at 12:50 PM. Reason: typo... meant 1500

I was running a 2500 stall,4:11's,built 4L60e,pulleys,efan,MSD6A,msd wires,msd coil,walbro fuel pump,TB spacer,K&N cai,1.6 roller tips,JBA headers with a dumped spintech,most of the free mods,a good computer tune,100 wet shot and prolly some more stuff Ive forgot about.
stock converter is 1300-1400 I think, and you should have 3.42's out back.

I havent had the truck in almost 2 years I not sure what the 1000ft was but it usually ran 8.50-8.60 in the 1/8th mile track here.
Its a good ride to the closest 1/4 mile track so it only went down the whole 1320 a few times.
