The last 8 numbers of the VIN is always the build number on any car(modern era). But from what I've seen there are no specific numbers to breakdown the numbers of what models and what options, colors etc(as far as which car was built first as a Z-28 for example) in my 2002 model year car. www.camarohighway.com has some interesting info. The "white book" has some options codes and prices, amount of models + engines, available @ www.bobmcdormanchevrolet.com for $15.95 + $3 s+h. Hope any of that helps.

The build numbers for SS and WS6's is different. It tells what number our car is. The vin tells what number it was on the assembly line but not what number it was when it was on the SLP assembly line.
