Gto?
Im thinking of buying a GTO. I need something that holds 4 people. I really dont want a car payment so I was going to get a 98 up Formula but the more I look at the GTOs the more I like the 06s. Is there anything I should look for?
Thanks, Chase

the 04 is down by about 20 horsepower but you can save a good bit of money over an 06. look for a front end shake ( it can be fixed but can get alittle expensive), the back seat is kda hard to get in and out of, but once you are in its comfy.....I LOVE THEM!

mine is an a4 and I wouldn't trade it for a manual. the auto in the GTO is a tough tranny, plus with a tuner you can adjust shift points and firmness. if you want to do drag racing with it you can't go wrong.... adjust it to where you want it with a tuner, goto the track, turn off the traction control, put her in drive and hammer down

YJ- 04 GTO M6
I like my GTO, it has more comfort and better interior than the Fbodys. Ive had both and wouldnt trade my GTO for a SS or WS6.

Pewter- Y2K WS6
autos suck bottom line. only exception is city traffic.
I bought a WS6 for the look of the car, it doesn't look like a fat neon (sorry) and people will KNOW it's not a normal car. even non car people.
They are a great performance car thought. with the LS2 you get more HP and more potential HP with less modding. i don't think they are worth the money right now the 05+ are stilll getting big bucks around here.

Mark21472 whats the front end shake about?

front suspension problems from abuse, lots of weight on the the frontend already, and cheap factory bushings... don't get me wrong. I love mine and have not had any problems with it but some people have had to replace a few parts and dropped a couple hundred dollars to fix it. Sarge has some good writeups and how to's in here on several different things. Save up get the pedders front end bushings (I think about $300), pedders struts(about the same price as factory)...but don't get them till you need them(I've got 55,000 miles on mine and i'm about to get a pair) and relocate your battery to the trunk and it will handle like a dream!
Again, Sarge has lots of great writeups on the bushings and battery relocate and more... and hopefully he will jump in here and correct me if i'm wrong

I would highly recommend getting a 05-06 car with the LS2. These are heavy cars and a well known fact is that"There is NO substitute for Displacement"!!!
The LS2 has alot more of a muscle car feel to me. The TQ curve Specially if you talking about getting a auto is alot better and the car is way more responsive.
Are you thinking about nitrous or not. If so if your going for the fastest car at the track I would steer toward the auto. The street a 6 speed is way more fun. It also depends on the driver in having more skills to shift that 6 speed. I know many that have 6 speed cars and can't drive them for shit!
SO in that view if they had auto they would be faster and not getting beat by cars that should see tail lights.Don't be afraid of the bottle!!! Be afraid of your tune!!!

MARK21742: It looks like 04 and 05 are close in price.
LS2Tuner: Im looking for more of a street car. I doubt I would use NOS. I was thinking just headers, intake, cam, maybe heads, wheels, and suspension. Ive had acouple 6 spd firebirds and loved them. Im not saying Ive got skills but I think I can hold my own against most people.
Im going to have to wait a few more months on the GTO. I went last night to a dealer to looka at a 04 GTO and they Had a 01 WS6 TransAm my wife had to have. It seems like a nice car buts a Auto and Im just not sure about that. I drove it the hour drive more and my left foot kept going to sleep. Every car and truck I own is manual trans.
