a4 I have a grinding noise in 1st the rest of the gears are fine!

When I start my car it seems ok, but I hear a slight rattle under the hood. when I take off in first(a4 tranny) I hear this grinding noise sometimes. As soon as I hit 2nd it goes away and sounds fine. Soon as I slow it down to like 10 to 5 miles per hour my engine sounds like its rpms are being dragged down by the transmission and me slowing down. when I put the car in neutral or park it is fine. the fluid is fine too. I plan on selling it pretty soon like some time this year by the way.

any ideas on what the problem may be?
    thanks guys

I'm having the same problem, I can feel the vibragtion on the foot pedal and I loose power when the noise starts. When it goes away, I can take off with no problems or noise. If it was the trans, would I loose power? The RPM's will not go up when I experience this problem. Also the Check Engine light started coming on. Any suggestions?
