    gears

I have a 98 formula A4 with a few bolt ons and a shot of gas. I recently bought a set of mickey thompson radials and it is a DOG on motor now out the hole since it hooks now. So I got to thinking about gears.
Ive had a few Fbodys and Ive always been told on a A4 in you can manually put it in 1st gear it has 3.23's... then I looked on LS1tech and it said GU2=2.73's...
My car says GU2 in the door but I can manualy put it in 1st... whats up with that?

Get the 3.73's if you are an A4. If you were an M6, I would go with the 4.10's

+1 on the 3:73's. Richmond or Yukon brand. Actually the Yukons are stronger IMHO.

All the A4 LS1 cars can select 1st, gears didn't matter. Might not even have 2.73's, my car was originally GU2. Before buying gears make sure what's in the car, which carrier, etc.

    98 formula

I already have some richmond 3.73's thats been sitting on a shelf for almost a year I bought for my 95 but I sold it before I got around to putting them in.
I thought my LS1 A4 was 3.23's and the gears I have are for a series 2 carrier so I thought they wouldnt work until now.
the car was a bone stock one owner car when i bought it and it says GU2 in the door so Im assuming I have 2.73's.
I dont trust myself so Im gonna try to find somebody to set them up for me in the next few days. thanks guys

the LT1 cars didn't have a spot for 1st gear selection. my 94 formula and 94 z28 were that way.

2:73 was the base gears for the autos... you got 3:23 for the T/A (and maybe formula).. I upgraded my 3:23s to 3:73s in Jan.. and i LOVE em! Shaved more than 2 tenths off my 1/4.
