    LS1 Swap

I just returned from a 1700 mile trip to pick up a 2000 Trans Am LS1 engine with a 6 speed transmission from a WS6 with 21,00 miles on it. It is going into a 1978 Datsun 280Z that I purchased new 30 years ago. I do not know much about the LS1 except it will fit perfectly and is a great engine. Couple of questions. (1) How do you override the computer aided gear selection (2) The car had traction control, what is it, and what turns it on and off (3) anyone have a source for a GM shop manual, would prefer it on a DVD.

    Thanks Whiz

I can answer your first question. The CAGS can be disabled using a "skip shift eliminator", which is available through places like Jegs or the site sponsorers. Other methods are to use a resistor in place of the skip shift eliminator or to just have a tuner turn it off completely.

I'm not 100% sure about the traction control, but I believe it controls something on the rearend. So if you're not using the WS6 rearend, I don't think it will be functional. I'm not really sure how you would turn it on or off though.

I have a switch in my car that turns it on/off. Not sure if it can be tuned out in the PCM, that's a good question for the Computer & Tuning board: http://www.ls1.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=9

    First welcome to the site

Second, this should answer most of your questions in regards to traction control:
