    valve overlap questions/discussion

i still cant quite wrap my head around all aspects of the centers a cam is ground on. if you have a high overlap (low l.s.a.) what does that do to the powerband versus a low overlap cam that specs the same?

in other words, if i get the 224/224, whats the difference going to be between a 112 and say a 114 in terms of powerband? of course there is more chop at idle but i know all of that.

i want to get a cam, ive done the research but i was told there is a difference, however slight, that a powerband is narrower or wider depending on the overlap. just need clarification. thanks guys.

in short, the closer the LSA, the more mid range power for a shorter amount of rpms. the further the LSA, the less mid range (same cam, smaller LSA), but carries out longer throughout the rpm range.

the tire size, combined with the final drive ratio, will determine the engine speed required. For instance, a vehicle with a final drive of 3.42:1 and a tire diameter of 26” will only see about 5400 – 5600 RPM through the lights in high gear in a quarter mile run. Selecting a cam that will make maximum power in the 2500 – 5600 RPM range will provide the best ET.
was wondering how you can calculate all this? i am looking to go with the tr224 and i want to do gears with it and the right size tires too, among other things. how exactly do you dictate what rpm youll cross the traps in?

    m6 btw

You want to cross the traps right before your shift point in 4th gear.
