Oil coming up through pro 5.0 shifter

I have a ’98 SS with a pro 5.0 shifter. The car has 60,000 miles on it and the shifter is 1.5 years old with only 5,000 miles on the shifter. Oil will come up through the shifter and sit in the ring around the base of the shifter, which then makes the inside of the car smell like oil. It’s not a lot maybe only like 3/4 of a teaspoon. I contacted Pro 5.0 and they told me that their shifters were not engineered to be a tight sealed unit, they tried telling me that I just had the transmission overfilled with oil. I checked it and it was at the correct level (level with fill hole). Has anyone else experience this problem? Thanks!

did you use any rtv sealant to seal the shifter base to the tranny?

Yes. It's not leaking around the very outside where the base contacts the top of the transmission housing. The oil is coming up through were the shift stick/rod (the part where you bolt the shift lever to) goes into the transmission.

i have never had that problem i wouldnt even know where to start. try taking it apart and see if you can seal it better some how

Try taking out a little bit of your tranny oil. It may be a tick too full regardless of what the dipstick says. Just take a little bit out at a time, until you don't notice any in the shifter area.
