How many guys we got here that detail for $$$$

I know Goose and myself do, but how many others do we have that detail other peoples rides for side money?

Just out of curiosity, if you do it for $$$$, do you have the vehicle owner sign any kind of liability release?

Also, I am interested to see what kind of rates everyone charges, do you have a flat rate, or do you charge by various services?

    TIA

We actually recently cleaned up my daily driver. The paint is in bad shape. 85,500 miles of sitting outside.
But it looks good when clean again. Water actually beads.
I help Goose out for sure...but he knows much more than I do when it comes to detailing. Does great things with paint.

We are actually going to be doing the T/A here soon. Could use a couple hours of love.

I detail for friends only. I charge $100, which includes:

    1. Dawn wash to strip old wax, 2 bucket wash system
    2. full inside vacuum(every crumb,doghair,coin, etc. etc. I'm anal)
    3. dash cleaned and sealed with mothers dash protectant
    4. all leather cleaned and sealed with McGuiars(spellcheck it's late here
    5. interior windows cleaned
    6. hand wax with Ardex Gold Supreme wax, great deep shine lasts 6-8 months
    7. tires shined up and rims/alloys cleaned up
    8. Rainex applied 2 coats to windshield
    9. Ardex interior detail spray(leaves a great smell inside)
    10. any major blemishes that can be removed with LG pretreatment I'll hit up

Guess that's about it, no shampooing carpets or anything like that. Most shops/dealers charge $225-$250 around here, never a single complaint and I've done around 20-25 cars since last spring. Usually takes up around 4 hours of my day.

    Thanks for the info Hurley!

If you don't mind me asking, what region of the country are you from and would you charge any higher for bigger SUV's?

Most of the time I don't charge my friends for it, and if I do, it will be a lot less than they would pay someone else to do the same job
If the car is badly swirled, and it will require a lot of time to do, I'd probably charge 100 bucks using premium stuff. Gotta pay for those pads, and my Menzerna polishes
If what they want is a quick clean up, and a light polish job, then it will be less. If they help me with it, it might be less, or a burger, and a beer will do for a nice detailing party day
In exchange they may help me do my vette when I do

I do some other jobs on the side at a speed shop. I do their customers cars for a fee, and give the speed shop their cut. But that depends on what they want me to do

It really is more than a hobby to me than anything else. i do this as therapy!
When I'm bored, I'd do a washer or dryer quick detail

I said in the beginning that SUV's would be $25 more, but I've never charged over $100 for them. I had 2 guys that wanted their carpets steamed from rock salt stains, so I charged then $25 a piece extra, rented a "Rug Doctor" from Lowes which BTW worked great. That cost me $35, and while I had it I steamed my car and the wifes truck along with 2 house area carpets, so I got my $$$ worth

In Philadelphia, not road tripping to OK

Didn't intend for you to road trip to OK, I am trying to get a feel for what market prices range throughout each region of the country. The Rug Doctors do work great

Thanks for your responses Hurley and Goose

I won't charge my good friends. But I would start at $200 and go up if the paint is really bad. I buff the cars for a friend of mine that owns a detail shop. We've charged as much as $400 to buff a car, that was black and had alot of problems with the paint. The owners live on an island an would rather pay someone to keep there car clean. Next time it won't be as much.

I've been detaling for about 15 years now and never charge more than 200 for a complete recon even if i have 8 hrs into it. i treat every car as if it were mine ,and anal as well . i usually figure 25 to 30 an hour including materials- i work full time at a chevy dealer in nh -piece work, and if your good at it work will be plentyful with good money to be made.

I am actually in the process of buying a detailshop right now and hope to close in about a week.

I have been detailing for about 10 years, started in high school at chevy and ended up running the wash bay/detail shop at lamborghini. They didnt pay to well so i got an office job, but i recently had the oppotunity to acquire an established profitable detail shop owned and operated by one guy. I charge $225 for an interior and exterior full detail, but have other packages available.
