Sounds like a bad connection somewhere.

x2 it sounds like its the wires going to the motor not the motor itself.

Right on MILKMAN.. I don't think these cars had this problem, but I have had several older GM's where the wires in the steering column would get f-up causing the wipers to stop or turn on without activating the switch.

I would have to look and compare the box to my truck to see if it's even remotely close but my truck was having some funky wiper issues and it was a cracked solder joint on the board.

Well I know this thread is a few months old but, this just happened to me this morning. They worked perfectly fine yesterday, I parked the car last night and left them in the delay position. When I started my car this morning I shut them off and they parked at the top of their arc rather than at the bottom, exactly like FastBruce desribed. My temp fix was to put them back on delay and pull the fuse when they went to the bottom of the windshield.
By the way, my Formula's a 98 also.

I believe mine did that before because of shutting off the car with the blades not parked. I simply clicked the switch to give a single wipe ( the reverse direction spring loaded 'mist' position) and they reparked. Have worked flawlessly since. I've seen other types of cars do this before-it's not a GM thing only.

I read a post a while back that talked about unhooking the bug juice and they worked but I forget the details as to why and what the fix was. I'll try to find it. In the meantime try to unhook the wiper fluid and see what happens. I want to say the problem ended up being the actual switch on the column but I can't swear by that.

Anyone know the fix for this I have the exact same problem: Wipers work perfectly but stop in the up position.
