I think GM if it brings it back will likely jump on the retro remake trend and we'll end up with a Camaro that looks like the new Mustang, and hopefully engineered to outperform stock for stock thier entire line, and maybe even for marketing drama outdo every new friggin HEMI POS Dodge can crank out like back in the old days ;)

I think that a ZL1 LS7 model has to be available for 45k to dominate the new cobras. Obviously the LS2 Z28s would romp the current GTs, but I want GM to take a stab at the Shelby Cobras. This is unlikely though as they would be too scared that such a camaro would interfere with their corvette plans.............uggh

Its alive and will be back...not the Firebird though...the GTO took care of that, kinda cornered the market for the Pontiac demographic buyers

See, that sucks. Even though I am a Chevy guy and love Camaro's, it won't be the same without the Firebird! It is like the Camaro is losing his brother!

so does anybody really know? Is the Camaro coming back? I was sitting on a plane 2 weeks ago headed to Corpus Christi, TX and a guy I sat next to said he worked for GM. (We were talking about my 02 "SS") and He said they are bringing it back, it will have a retro look and it will be in 2007. He also said they had an "SS" coming out as a 2008 model with 475HP! Now for all I know he could be a serial killer, but he seemed like he knew what he was talking about, but who knows???

This is from a secret GM document that my "friend" had about the 2007 Camaro.....
" Introducing the all new 2007 Camaro, new design, new features, a new way about thinking about the Camaro. Never before in its lustrious 40 year history has the Camaro been such the center of your attention and for good reason. To start , we have completely redisgned the exterior to turn heads more than ever, with sleeker lines, a low stance and design that says "look out". We have also added more exterior color choices like "Snow White", "Baltic Blue" and "Midnight Black".
"Dont think we forgot about the inside, it was also completely redesigned for 2007. From posh leather seats and leather wrapped steering wheel, power windows and locks, standard drivers and passengers side "NexGen" airbags, AM/FM stereo with in dash CD player (OnStar available) everything you need at your finger tips."
"We have also redesigned the drivetrain with many exciting choices to choose from. First the base Camaro model comes standard with the reliable "Iron Duke" inline 4 cylinder, developing an astonishing 105 horsepower out of only 2.5 litres of motor. It comes standard with a 3 speed manual transmission, a 3 speed automatic is optional. Next in line is the Camaro Z-28, rich in history as being the performance Camaro, we can proudly say it still carries the torch today. Standard is the 2.8 litre V-6 producing a whopping 155 horsepower with the multi port fuel injection system and dual manifold exhaust system. Standard is a 4 speed manual with a 4 speed automatic being optional.
"Chevy is also proud to say that in 2008 we will bring back the "SS" Camaro with a exciting new engine just developed by GM. It is a hybrid 1.9 litre inline 4 pounding out a ground shaking 207 horsepower. This amazing feat was made possible be the half gas, half electric power plant just released by GM, which many in the industry say is up to todays technicial standards. This remarkable engine will only be available in the "SS" model, making it even more exclusive. So stop in today and drive away in your new 2007 Camaro"
Nobody here has to believe me, I dont care, this is what the paper said on it and it was from GM. Im saving my downpayment now :ughlaugh:

Dear GM,
I am British and I would like a new Camaro Z28 to replace my 1998 LS1 which is starting to wear around the edges. I would like to thank you for permitting me the pleasure of owning this car which I tried to replace with one of your wonderful Corvette Z06's. But here's the thing see. The Corvette only has two seats. Imagine that? A car with two seats and me with a 5 year old daughter and one on the way. So again, thank you for the pleasure I've had from this car sitting in the garage, not competing in any way, shape or form with my Z28 which I can use every day as it has 4 seats.
So please, don't feel bad about putting 400 or even 500bhp in your next Camaro because that's actually what I want in my family four seater car because you may as well concede this one, I'm just not going to buy a Corvette ever again. In fact, I'm trying to sell the one I've got because I can't actually ever use it.. though it looks real pretty in my garage and would impress the neighbours if I ever got it out. No, what I need is a brilliant new Camaro Z28, just like the one I prefer to my Z06. Polish up the dynamics, improve the handling, hey, even give it a HUD and a titanium exhaust if you want because here's the thing if you missed it - IT DOESN'T COMPETE WITH THE CORVETTE.
Now here's the next thing. If and when I sell the Z06, I'm going to have to replace the Z28 which, I may have mentioned, is now growing old. Much as I would love another Z28, they're pretty hard to come by in the UK and even if I could find one, it would be at least 3 years old and I'd really like a new car. I suppose what I'm really needing is a FOUR seater car which is lighter than a bloated and ugly GTO and quite light on it's feet with some real style. I'm looking really hard at this car here which is called a Mustang and it looks ideal except it hasn't got a Chevy badge or an LS engine which is really what I wanted.
If you don't have anything to offer me, then please don't think I didn't like your cars, you just forced me into a corner and I could be dead by 2009 and can't wait for you. I'm sorry someone ruined your lineup and sorry that when you designed the C6, you used a 7 series BMW as a model. Hope you get well soon.
Regards

does anyone really believe gm would be so stupid as to produce such weak camaros? it would be the most pointless move they've ever made. if that isn't a joke then i'm homer simpson.
anyways, i heard that gm is going to present a concept camaro at the detroit show this january. from there it all depends on the response they recieve.
personally, i really don't want the camaro to come back. my car's future value will drop because of it (currently it is the last year of the Camaro SS). but, on the other hand, with the camaro and firebird gone and the gto not selling for sh!t, those ugly new mustangs are taking over (and who the hell thinks those things look good? they look the like the bastard child of the cool old 'stangs mixed with the previous generation, they look cheap and ugly as sh!t man)

We'll see what GM Decides to do, but they need to get off their ass'es soon, or I'm bailing on them after mine is paid off next year! I heard the only car remaining using the zeta platform W/ Rear wheel drive V-8 will be the "next generation" GTO FOR 2008-Not including ther Corvette of course.

yeah, but only when i'm not supposed to ;) actually, i kinda have stopped that too since i got my ticket, but every once in a while i let loose.
i don't remember the charger concept, but i remember the mustang concept, and that one i liked, but when they actually came out with it, i nearly vomited. as long as gm doesn't follow the trend set by chrysler and ford, they'll be ok. i'm torn between whether they should go retro or not. if they did retro right it would own the 'stang, on the other hand, it would appear as if gm were copying ford if they did follow that path.
.... this is a little off subject, but i thought this was hilarious

Try to locate a website that has the 99 Dodge Charger Concept-That was HOT! if they did "that" Charger the new Mustangs would have been SLAM DUNKED! As far as Retro styling if GM can build a winner production camaro based on retro styling they will- not because they want to copy Ford But you can't ignore the success of the new mustang which translates into HUGE PROFITS $$$$$ for GM.

I don't know if any1 read this article or not but it gives me hope for the return ofd the camaro
Found on GM insider news
Camaro/Chevelle- Chevy has an all new sporty coupe set to debut in 2007 on the Zeta platform. This car is very similar to the 2007 GTO, with the exception of tighter styling. At this point the assumption is that this car will be the all new Camaro. There is however an outside rumor that this car may be hastily redesigned and given a more appropriate name such as Chevelle. Then GM would design a Camaro on an all new midsized RWD platform loosely based on a lengthened Kappa platform. This platform (rumored to be called "Beta") was first previewed in the Holden Torana TT36 concept shown at the 04 Sydney International Auto Show. This would slightly delay a Camaro to possibly 2008. Either way, we will keep you updated!
Here is the link....also talkes about the return of the grand national....sweet

Couple of months ago Motor Trend (issue with Bullitt & New Charger) said a new Chevelle & Camaro are Dead! Zeta platform not good enough, Sigma platform to expensive $.
Well there you have it.
They are not gona use a zeta or sigma.Talking about a lengthened Kappa platform or a new Beta platform.
Tell you the truth I wonder if the GN is comming back...How much power you think they can get out of a new turbo charged 3.6 V6? Could be fun and use less gas.300 Hp on a lightweight plateform, might make some nice numbers.:firedevil

What the hell happened?!! That Charger auctually looks good. What the hell happened at Dodge?!?! Oh well.... they still have the Viper, lol.
As for the video of the "so called" Camaro, I dunno... don't really like it. It looks cool as a car on it's own, but I would be pissed if they slapped the Camaro logo on it! Looks too much like a Cougar or something .

i think that car is ugly, its not a muscle car, its looks like Mazda Rx8, chevy just needs to let the Chevelle rest and never bring it back, if they do i think it will discrase the name. nothing in my mind will be better the a LS6 454 4speed Chevelle, i mean they could run high 11's-12's right out the factory.

I think somebody should tell these car companies that a four door car is NOT a "Sports Car". It's a family car, no matter how "Sporty" you make it.

Its alive and will be back...not the Firebird though...the GTO took care of that, kinda cornered the market for the Pontiac demographic buyers
I saw pics of the 2008 to and the prototype gto looks like the 67 gto with the 69 judge wing on the trunk

I've got a theory. I think GM rests names every now and then. Sometimes they have to like in the F-Body situation, but they always come back, especially if they are popular like Camaro Firebird and GTO. I don't really like the new GTO but they did bring it back almost soon as the firebird left. Camaro and Firebird have been out for 35yrs, THEY'RE COMING BACK. I bet both of them. Maybe not at the same time, but both will be back.
My other theory is GM is trying to repeat history. Back when the first mustang came out around 65, 2years later we have F-bodies.
The new 05 stangs just came out with this new retro look, I think GM is watching fords sales with it before they try to make a retro Fbody. I mean they already did with the SSR.
Here's a little evidence to prove my point,
After two years of watching the Ford Mustang enjoy tremendous success, General Motors finally launched its entry into the pony car segment, the Chevrolet Camaro. Although available with a mediocre six cylinder for volume sales, the Camaro could be equipped with several V8s and a myriad of performance options. Then, of course, was the famous Regular Production Code, Z/28, that would change the industry's view of pony cars.
That's about the first Camaro. This is why I think they're going to try to repeat history and plus everybody is hearing 07. That's a 2 year difference.
I also wouldn't be suprised if GM put that flyer out talking about a 4cyl SS to make Mustang owners feel comfortable until it comes out and before they no it we pull out with 475hp.
4cyl F-bodies have occured, but GM will not let us down like that. That would just be wrong!

The camaro is coming back,brother-in-law works for gm and he said they moved up the return date after seeing the success of the mustang and even further up after they got in financial trouble. G.M. is almost as bad financially as chrysler corp. was in the late 70's early80's when lee iacoca came into save them. It's going to be a retro look based off the 69 camaro.the different models will have differences about them like they did back then such as doors over headlights ETC...The plant is in canada and they have already started retooling the plant,it's supposed to be kinda a secret one of the news channels did a story on it.How the plant was shut down then all the sudden years later they come in hire people and noone will talk about whats going on. hate to say it but G.M. lost their ass bt puting all their eggs in one basket(suv's)and just giving the rest over to chrysler an ford.Chrysler is after Ford now by marketing their 300c to police departments.People want american muscle that's why ford is doing great in the car market. The gto is a holden car from australia i believe, and its been out many years.Wouldn't have one if you gave it to me.Maybe GM execs are finally seeing the light ....we'll see soon i hope..

They didn't tear all of it down just some of it and now it's rebuilding. They needed some more poen spaces cheaper to tear old and build new is what I was told.
