My MAF sensor screen is dirty, is there anything that can safely clean it?

You can use carb cleaner to clean it. Take it off and hold it about 12-15 inches away. Let it dry and reinstall.

I clean mine with aerosol carburetor cleaner.
The screen isn't the delicate part, it's the little fine wires of the resistors that are soldered onto the three metal crosspieces BEHIND the screen that are delicate.
I use the tube and blast away, then let it dry off.
If you break the resistor wires your MAF is shot.
Good Luck. :)

I use electrical cleaner from Radio Shack....be careful of some Carb Cleaners...they have chlorine in them....corrode the lil wires....that's a bad thing....

Like Big D said remove screen, clean with T/B cleaner or carb then reinstall.. Clean 3 metal crosspieces on the sensor it self with Q-tip dipped in mix of dishwashing liquid and water, don't touch the fine wires. I did it that way worked fine.... Later mod to Granatelli they are made screenless.. later

Don't mess with the screen. Just take off the MAF and clean it with electrical cleaner.
I myself have used Carb cleaner.

I got some MAF cleaner at Shucks, about the same price as electrical contact cleaner. The can did 4 cars. I'd guess it is more or less contact cleaner.

Let me ask this...when a MAF gets dirty does it throw codes or just drop performance. Starting to think about doing this with mine but no codes are thrown and it seems to run fine but if cleaning it will bring out hidden power I am all for it! Thanks and have a great weekend ya'll!

It's possible it could do one or the other or both. It's just a good idea to clean it once in a while when it's dirty that's all.... It's called Preventive Maintenance. Laters :texas:

Here is the difference, lost over 60rwhp because of K&N filter oil on MAF, it looked clean when Jason at Texas Speed took it off but after he cleaned it, showed big difference. Even dirty mine had no sign of missing or bad idle, just kills fuel pressure demanded by computer, then your injectors our opening all the way up trying to keep fuel in there. Anyways leave it stock and screened and just clean with stuff mentioned above.

Thats crazy man, over 60WHP just from a dirty MAF?? Damn.
I wouldn't use carb spray on the MAf sensor, they are very sensitive and easy to damage. CRC just came out with a spray just for cleaning MAF sensors, looks like this:

Thats the only thing I'd trust using on the MAF, besides maybe rubbing alchohol.

:nono: ... soap of any kind will leave a residue. Good old fashioned clear rubbing alcohol ... non of the new fangled scented or colored crap.

The CRC Industries Sensorkleen really works well.
Don't use carb cleaner it is too hard on the electric elements

I'd pull it off so you can clean both sides of the MAF. Otherwise you're just spraying through the screen hoping to hit the sensor. It comes off easily enough, might as well take it off and do it right.
