$49.99 for my build # and car's option? Worth it?

Just picked up my 2001 SS this week. I call SLP and they tell me i have to buy a birth certificate for my car. Now i have no prob spending $50.00 but i remember awhile back SLP had a forum and they would just give the build # out or you could just call and give the vin and boom you would have it. What do you guys think? Im prob going to end up driving down there to pick up a few things but im not sure if i should get this certificate or not.

SLP is only 1hr away from my house been there hundreds of times for the many 4th gens i had. Im gonna get a Lid and filter and the bellows and maybe the cold air scoop
