I have an 2000 camaro SS with an M6. Slp cold air kit, and catback is about all the mods I have done as of right now. Still have the stock 10 bolt rear end. Starting to make a funny noise and Im wanting to do the rearend. This a daily driver and will see no strip time. Only some tireburning street racing from time to time. Wondering what gears to go with? Also what is a decent installation fee?

4:10's FTW. Stock is 3:42. No need to waste money on 3:73's, wouldnt feel much of a difference.

you'll see almost no difference from 3.42's to 3.73's.
if you like gear bangin, then the 4.11's are your best friend. you'll be rippin through gears pretty fast man.

Since it's a DD, how much highway driving do you do? If you do a lot, go with 3.73.

I daily drive mine with 4.30's. Absolutely love them and even with H&C and all my mods still get 23-24 MPG. 75 MPH @ 2050 RPM's on the highway.
Go at least 4.10's. 3.73's are a huge waste of money with a 6 speed you will not feel any difference and be highly dissapointed.

3.90's, only option. Don't have to switch gears to 5th in quarter, good MPG, hell they all whine.

Maybe I was given bad advice as I was choosing my 3.90's, but with just 400 rwhp, I was told I'd be switching to 5th.
With 3.90's though, I can definitely say, I didn't even notice a full mpg change. with mixed driving. Never got a chance to try it out on the track because I couldn't stand the whine.

had 3.90's in my old 10 bolt and had a lot of 4th gear left. Thats why I went to 4.30's in my 9" and glad I did.

Plan on a 9" or 12-bolt

Not to jack the thread or anything. I was just wondering how much faster a car would feel when switching to 3.42 to the 4.10s.

Dramatically, especially with a manual.

I agree even with ths stock redline you should be safe in 4th to 112-115 mph
Also considering how small the pinion gear is on 4.10's I heard the 3.90's are better for strength and longevity. That and the performance difference between the two won't be much.

I tend to agree but if the car isn't going to see any or even very little strip time then it doesn't matter much. Esp if he's not going with a Sticky Tire.

Prepare for a 12-bolt; that 10-bolt won't last.

I just did 4.10 with my 9" and love them. Little whine, but not bad. Just the sound of performance and strength. It's about a 20% lowering of the power band from what I gathered. So basically your into your power 20% faster and change gears that much faster as well. Anyway that's what I came up with before I made the change. I didn't run through a tank of gas yet and don't really watch my fuel mileage so I won't comment on it.

Excellent choice and the 9" is basically bullet proof.

Know this is a bit late, but if you have'nt decided yet, I think I can help. I just had my rear-end rebuilt on my 2000 SS, because it went out. The only good thing was, the mechanic who rebuilt it said, I could switch from the stock 3:46 gears, to a 3:75 or 4:10 gear. I did'nt want to kill my fuel economy so I chose the inbetween gear(3:76), and you DO feel a noticeable difference in take off. It's kind of funny, I was pissed to realize I had to rebuild the rear-end on my car, but I was real happy with the new gear ratio. Not too much overkill in the low end, but definately better than the old ratio, where you had to really gun it to feel anything taking off (OK, it was fast, but lacked that low end grunt).
It really boggles me, why GM put such a low gear ratio on their stock cars...just CAFE standards?

Because the stock rear ends are a "pencil thin" 7.5 inch ring gear in the Gen 4 F-bodies. The taller gears require a beefier rear end, e.g. 8.5 inch or greater ring gear for durability when installing 3.73 or greater gears.

I did'nt want to kill my fuel economy so I chose the inbetween gear(3:76)That's a stupid reason. 4:10s hardly effect your milaege at all. :screwy:
