Just heard on the radio they have a deal where you pay $100 for the first transmission fluid flush and fill, and every year after that for as long as you own the car they flush and fill it for free. Is something fishy about this or is that a good idea?

Local GM Dealer charges $139 for the service. I'd expect there has to be a catch somewhere, but maybe they'll just recommend a bunch of other expenive maintenance everytime you come in.

There can't be a catch, after listening again I noticed Ex-Eagles QB Ron Jaworski endorses it!!!!

i hate to tell you this but i worked in a well known trans shop years ago.........trust me stay far away from them...although i wouldn't trust a GM dealer either.Best bet is a good small independant shop with local people running it that want to do a good job. Most of that flushing is Bs anyway...if you just change the filter and pan oil every50-100k yer fine.

dont knock a flush. in an automatic trans a flush will clean parts of a trans that a pan drop wont. it goes through the torque converter the cooler and all the lines. I would recommend dong both every so often.

i know of at least one trans ruined by a flush,my dads low mileage 30k eagle vision.took it in for an aglinment, shop talked him into a trans flush.two days later car no move nomo.cost him 3500+ for a new trans at the local dealer.i'd stay far away from an trans flushes, its can move dirt into the worng places-block the filter, and cause KAOs inside the transmission.i also know of several 460le that took a powder after having a flush.

i think flushes are a good idea early into the life of an auto trans provided that the fluid gets changed often. a flush kills a trans when the flush is done when the trans has high mileage say 60k and above and the fluid hasnt ever been changed. i say proper maintenance is most important really.
