When you guys with automatics line up to race on the street do you start in 1st and make your way to drive or do you just start in drive? Which way is the best?

I just leave mine in drive, the computer knows the optimum shift points.

On the street I will put it in first because I don't want to get caught with my car shifting into second if I have to let off the gas.(sometimes the other person will fake a launch or have such a poor launch, and I want to give them a fair shot.:o ) But as soon as it is on I dont shift to second I quickly put it in drive and let the computer do its thing. The last two times at the track I tested the manual shift against leaving it in drive and manual shift is almost .2 seconds slower on av.

it was the opposite for me leaving it in drive was 3 tenths faster. even if i didn't hit the rev limiter. thanks jeremy

I always do my own 1-2-3. Even at the track, ran faster times shifting myself. I hate to come off the line and have the other person wait and itll shift and have to downshift.

With my car I have to leave it in 3rd for the track. It want's to shift in to OD at the 1000ft mark. Felt exactly like CAGS the fall on its face feel. It netted me a big 13.02. My rev limiter is raised so I dont bouce off it through the lights in 3rd. Different set-ups require testing for best results.

Just leave it in drive.. I never met anyone who actually improved their time manualy shifting an automatic. Not to mention its just retarded.. Go buy a manual if you want to have a manual lol. I do however know someone who had to buy a new tranny because he manually shifted his auto all the time.

EXACTLY!
Just start in Drive, not over-drive. Your car idles lower in OD, so you can get through the RPM range faster in Drive (at least it seemed that way in my Camaro). Oh, and I too have seen several people burn up their tranny by manually shifting an automatic. And the time won't be faster!

have a couple of questions. for it to want to shift into OD at the 100ft foot mark means one of two things. either you have 4.10 gears or shift points are low. so, what's the gear you have and what are the shift points?
