This might seem like a silly question, but what is the meaning/origin of the two stripes that I see often on the front fender of Camaros and Vettes? Are they supposed to be on the driver or passenger side, or does it matter?

They originally were used on Corvette race cars in the 60's, the original Gran Sports. I believe they were used to tell the cars apart, as they all had the same paint schemes.

When the 96 C4 Gran Sport came out, it used the blue and white paint scheme, and also had the red hash marks.

Camaro's never had them, so they have absolutely no meaning on a Camaro. Personally I think it's pointless to put them on a Camaro, since once again, they never had them, so there's no meaning to them on a Camaro. At least on a Vette there's some racing heritage behind it.

Thats the Grand Sport stripes that originated on the Vettes. They are supposed to be on the driver sides.

lol. I thought it is just for design. Now I know the reason why its there. Probably its not important if you don't have the stripes right?
