View Full Version : 4l60e Question
I've got a stage 2 performabuilt 4l60e in a 98 Camaro with 3:73 gears. How much does the rpm drop between gears when at WOT? If the tranny is shifting at 6300 when it goes from 1st to second and from 2nd to 3rd how much do the RPMs drop? 1st to seconds not to bad but 2nd to 3rd seems to drop quite a bit. Let figure that the stall convertor is a 3200 and its unlocked at WOT. What are the actual gear ratios of my performabuilt 4l60e?

Hi the actual gear ratios of all 4L60E transmissions are the same
1=3.06 to 1
2nd =1.63 to 1
3rd=1 to 1
4th=0.70 to 1
Hope this helps I know I spoke with you on phone but was going off top of my head what I gave you was very close but these are exact.

My tranny drops 2400 rpms on 1-2 shift and 2050 rpms on the 2-3. The 1-2 shift will drop more rpms just because the ratio spread is greater than 2-3.

Actual RPM drop between gears can be calculated to a point...the torque converter will actually have a significant impact on rpm drop....for example with a 3200 rpm converter under load you should NEVER see rpm drop below 3200-3500 rpm (with a good quality converter)
example in my drag car: stalls around 5800 rpm 1-2 shift at 6500 rpm drops to 6000rpm 2-3 shift is at 7200 and the rpm drops to 6200rpm. Its weird but its all in the converter
