It is fine for a mostly stock car.

But they aren't the strongest.

my tranny went on me back in the begining of june n i thought bout doin the same swap as you, but then couldnt even imagine the price, so i bought a Stage 2 4L60E tranny from performabuilt for $2100 with a 3500 stall, and the install was $995, n i have no regrets, it shifts alot firmer then stock and the lag from 1-2 and 2-3 gear is gone

I had a Turbo350 in mine with a stall converter and it was a PITA on the street. And I didn't go to the track often enough to justify it. Got tired of not being able to drive it everyday but got lucky when a guy wanted to go auto in him M6 car ... phew! I even did the whole swap for him for free just so I can get the M6 (I did get a McLeod Clutch, M/C, Pro5.0 shifter/etc. with the deal though).

there was a guy local just sold a LT1/M6 with computer for $1000. Will the older M6 work on a LS1 car. I keep reading how they are alot stronger.

No, the LT1 transmission is different than the LS1.. might just be the bellhousing, but I know they are different...

Im in the process right now.

Trans, belhousing, pedals, flywheel, 01 slave cylinder- $1648 shipped to my door.

Clutch (used for 900 miles)- $425

02 Master cylinder and Hurst shifter(with knob)- $150

Center console, crossmember, torque arm mount-$115

Total so far is $2338

All i need now is the pilot and throwout bearing. Im doing the work my self, after reading up on it, its really not that hard of a swap. I priced out getting a new A4 with the stall i wanted and its came out to almose the exact price of this. Im getting a tune after its in one because the computer needs to be reflashed and two because my car could use one, so throw another $300 on top of that. But i did find some pretty darn good deals

Hope this helps!

Yes
That would be a good opportunity for both people though.
You could swap parts with each other and save you both a lot of money and searching.
