Tranny click - need help

Hi all,
I have 2000 SS camaro with 102k miles, automatic transmission. I've never had it worked on other than regular maintenance.

I've recently noticed some clicking coming from under the car. At first I thought the rear end or u-joint, but i think i've narrowed it down to the trans area.

Here is whats going on: If i go from reverse to park or vise versa, the car will click, once.(sometimes it doesn't click but its becoming more frequent) Also if I'm at a stop it will sometimes click.(always just one click)Sometimes if I ease from a stop then get on the throttle it will click, and when i let off it will click again.

I don't know much about transmissions so any help would be great.

I would also like to say that when shifting into second it will click if under a good load. I don't think 2nd gear has anything to do with it but I believe its the force or stress thats causing the click.

Maybe a lose mount or mounting bolt?

i'm havin a similar issue. . . had the car on the lift this w/e and couldnt really narrow it down yet. i had my tranny rebuilt about 10,000 miles ago and have had a very slight leak at the tail of the tranny since. i believe the issue is there, in tail . . . hope someone has more input because we could both have the same cause.

Now that you mention it, mine had some fluid at the tail end of tranny. I didn't think much of it considering the miles and I previously had a leaky oil filter. I'll double check when i can to see what type of fluid it is.

ya i would . . . im gonna have my dads friend, who is really good with driveshafts and trannies, look at it and see what he thinks. id hate to go thru the pain in the ass of pullin the tail off the tranny, and then it only be something driveshaft related.

talked to my brother in law today and he said his 96 ss impala did the same thing. but never had any further problems with it. its gotta be a sorda common "wear" problem :dunno:

I brought mine to a tranny shop today for a checkup. They notice that the bushing in the rear housing is lose which prolly has something to do with the fluid leak in that area, but not sure if thats causing the click. It could possible be a U-joint but we wont know untill they take the drive shaft off and move the u-joints around by hand.

GULLETT17, when you had ur tranny rebuild, did they rebuild the rear housing also? Is there slack in yours where the forward yoke goes into the rear housing?

i dont think they did . . which sucks because i believe that is what caused the initial prob since low fluid was what prob caused other the other issues.

Well mine has maybe 1/8" of play in it. Wednesday they will replace the bushings in the rear housing and while the shaft is off i'll get'm to replace the u-joints too, they are cheap enough. I'll keep you posted on how it turns out.

yeah, definately let me know, because thats what i'm thinkin it has to be on mine too!
