It is a specific cylinder?
Starting to sound like a problem with pushrod/valvespring. Pull the valvecover and have a look. Remove the rockers from said cylinder and pull out the pushrods, they should roll smoothly on a flat surface.

Yea I agree...gonna have to pull the valvecover and see what's up. Double check the wiring going to the coil and the injector...look for any kind of damage. How does your oil and coolant look...getting a lot of white smoke?

Hmm, it might be a bad head gasket. Don't drive it like that if it is (white smoke)burning water. Bob

would it be worth it while im in there to just go ahead and do a head valvetrain swap???

that would certainly fix the problem wouldtnt it, changing the pushrods, valve springs, etc, and all the gaskets, while giving me some good hp, i mean the expensive part is getting the heads off and it looks like im gonna have to do that anyway to fix it, i was thnking the ls1 to ls6 conversion kit, cuz i wanna keep it kinda mild. ths is also a pretty good value????

well, had a compression test done and the #5 cylinder is dead. nothing happening in there. there trying to figure out what exactly it is like a valve spring, piston ring, pushrod, etc. they even through out the idea of getting a whole new engine, cuz the price might not be worth the risk. :( any comments??

with my car, i has a misfire on # 5 and 7 cylinders. turned out to be the headgasket. look at the front of your kmemeber and if you see coolant on there, but nothing coming from your waterpump, then the gasket may be your issue.

where would you recommend getting a used engine from?
baseballss
12-29-2005, 03:29 PM
well i just talked to fbody motorsprts in charlotte and they will sell me a used block with 20k miles on it with a warranty for 1 thousand, and 1500 for parts and labor to fix it. does this sound worthy of consideration, should i go ahead and save up a little more and while he has the heads off just swap them for some patriots.

well, they did a compression test done and the number 5 cylinder was dead, its the piston like the ring or something.

Man that sucks. If you got the money do a stock rebuild with a cam and heads.
baseballss
12-30-2005, 07:36 PM
hey big g's, you think that block i mentioned above sounds like a good idea?? ill just go ahead and do a head and cam swap while im at it
baseballss

what sucks is i dont have headers yet so it will kinda be restricted to some degree, not getting the full benifit from cam and heads but i haveto take advantage of the engine being pulled apart and save on installation.

Hold up man; you cant replace your engine because one cylinder has no compression without knowing what is wrong with it. CHilllll. What if it is just a headgasket? get who ever did your compression test to do a cylinder leakdown test to find out if its leaking off to another cylinder, or back thru a valve. either way the heads got to come off so the gasket can be replaced or your machine shop can repair the head/valve. Dont go spending crazy cash when you dont have to. ...oh and if you do replace the engine; do a search at www.nicb.org on the donor cars vin before you buy it so that you know it wasnt sunk. Usually wrecking yards reference the vin# with parts for inventory, so they should know what car it came off. NO point in putting an anchor where your engine was

i had many thourough tests done by a very reputable diagnostic guy recommended by several people. he did many tests including a test where he pressurized the block and if it leaked through the top around the valves it was in the valvetrain and if it came out the exhaust it was the block. it came out the exhaust. anyways fbody motorsports is gonna do my work but hes gonna take a look himself before he does anything drastic.

also if they do do this im gonna go ahead and get a cam put in and maaybe heads, im gonna go with the afr 205cc heads and i was wondering about the cam, it will be a daily driver so i def. want a 114lsa, tsp can get a twp torquer isn a 114 lsa. do you think this is too aggresive , any reccomendations??? i want the absolute most power while staying emissions leagal and keeping a pretty lost to stock idle. it can be a little rougher on idle but not much.
