probably an easy one for the specialists on here:

i got the stock 4l60e, when it's in 2 it takes off in first, then changes to 2nd. can the tranny be reprogrammed so it'll actually take off in 2nd? or is that a job for a shift kit? would be nice in the wet or in the cold. my only tool for that right now would be a hpp3.
any thoughts?

im not an expert but i think you would have to do a manual valve body to start in 2nd. but that is kinda old school, with that being a computer controlled tranny there may be a way to do it electronically. hopefully somebody with more knowledge on the subject will chime in.

Some cars have second gear start capability others do not. Its a programming not a hardware issue. A shift kit other than a full manual "no electronics" will not allow for a second gear start either .

i see...
so that means it can be reprogrammed? would this be a tranny shop issue, or could it be done with a handheld programmer like the hpp3?

That I do not know as I dont know if its changable items or part of the base program you would need to ask someone who does tuning

I think the 2000 starts in second when in 2, so the newer cars do this.

The 98 has a different computer than the 2000.
