I have a 99 Formula, LT/ORY, SLP exhaust/intake, tsp 228r cam, tuned, and i plan on doing more down the road, like heads, fast 90 intake manifold, and other things, my car has 360rwhp, but im going to get over 400 at some point.

i plan on ordering a new transmission today (4L60E from performabuilt) and i want your opinions on the gears i should get, either 3.73 or 4.10, and also what stall, im thinking something like 3200, 3400, or 3500.

Thanks for whatever help i get

i got similar mods...see sig

i would suggest 34-3600 i like my 3200 since its dd but track would be nice a little bigger and i have read 34-36 is not that much different on the street

btw dyno # are b4 gears, stall and built trans

Why do you say that I am in the process of getting a stall for my car.
My mods are basically nothing just a loudmouth catback with the slp cai.
I have been thinking about the 3400 stall but the gears I want 4.10s I had them in my 70 chevelle and it was GREAT:yup:

I like my 3.73.The differance from the factory 3.23 was very nice seat of the pants feel.Did not loose MPG on the highway.NA car I would run 3600 with 2.2 STR.On the highway you would not feel it and taking off in town would be amazing,Just my .02

That is good to know. My stock gears are 2.73 so i think no matter what I go to will make a difference.

blackout,
when you get your stall in let me know how you like it. are you doing the work yourself or paying for it,.

if you doing the work yourself let me know how long and how much of a pain it is.

With no power adder, go with a higher stall. I never liked gears unless its a race only car.

I wouldn't want to drive one with 4.10's on a DD.

what if its not a dd

Then 3.73's should be good.

I drove an A4 on the freeway with 3.73's. Damn thing sounded like it always needed to shift.

 A4 and 4.10 would be great for the track... but it would suck ass on the highway... it's do-able but painful in fuel economy...

i forget who makes the gears, i ordered them through year one and they are one of the brands that don't make as much whine as the others (when installed properly)... i don't want to ship them so if you come out and pick them up $50.00 will do...

4.10's aren't that bad on the highway. 80 was like 3K in mine. I drove mine on the weekends with 4.11's (9inch). I estimated my gas at like 21/22 mpg mostly highway (Down from 30 with 2.73's and 1800 rpm 80 mph) with cam and 3600 stall. Don't regret it and would do it again in a heart beat. With 4.10's and a stall though get ready for stock in tires. With 315's and full rear suspension (LCA, PHR, TA, V6 springs, KYB shocks, etc) 1st and 2nd gears on street tires were useless. After the tune I could punch it at 45-50 and would be completely sideways.

Heres a vid of mine pretune. The trans was shifting too early and the stall acted funny from a 2nd gear roll.

Ya but at least I still have it just waiting on funds to clear up to rebuild the motor. Fortunately everything I put in the motor came out unscathed. I still wash it and sit in if from time to time to let her know she won't stay down long lol

I put 4.10's in my 99 ws6 with a 3000 stall and I actually lost a tenth and 2 mph from the stock 3.23's.
