just installed headers

i just got MAC headers on my trans am and i was wondering what to do with the hoses that connect to the manifolds
there are 2 hoses that connect to the passengers side manifold and 1 that connects to the drivers side
the stock hose are too short
i've heard many that have blocked these
is that a good idea
what will happen if i block them
help please!

The driver side and one of the passenger side are the air fittings, blocking them will throw an engine code but won't hurt anything. The other on the passenger side is the EGR, this too will throw a code. Try searching !AIR or !EGR this should turn up more details.

One is for EGR (passenger side) the other is for AIR.

If you did not buy headers with emissions fittings then you will not be able to retain AIR or EGR. The headers with emissions fittings have little fittings that branch up from the header to meet the stock hoses.

Deleting EGR and AIR will not hurt anything, but it will cause the SES light to illuminate until you have someone tune it out of the computer. The best way to fully eliminate EGR would be to pick up an LS6 intake manifold (01-02 cars came with it). That way you will gain some more power from the manifold, and also the EGR hole will already be plugged. If you can't afford one right now, stop by pep boys and pick up the correct size freeze plug, insert it into the manifold. You can then remove the EGR solenoid (the little cylinder shaped thing at the front) and tie the connector out of the way.

The AIR system snakes all about the car. The pump itself lies under the drivers side headlight and is held on by three bolts. I believe it has an electrical connector as well. When you remove the pump you can follow the thick rubber tubing around the engine and pull it all out. The worst part about this is removing the little air box thing at the very back of the engine on the drivers side, it is kind of a pain to get to. And that's about it...

i have a catted y-pipe so at idle there isn't much difference
but when u hit or rev it its a different story!
i notice a power increase as well :drivin:

yes, i think i will because i have the catted y-pipe
also, the SES light is not on because the headers come with all the stock emissions fittings (AIR and EGR)
they are also not too expensive ($700 shipped)

i hear that when you remove the AIR system, it will decrease the life of cats dramatically

thats true, the cats will go bad quickly, but i hooked up all the stock and AIR and EGR so i will be fine
