ASR problems

I am a little concered that my asr is stuck in off. I push the button on the dash but the light that says ASR OFF stays on. I dont really want to turn it on but my car has ran poor at the track and I am just trying to narrow down the possiblities. Is this just a sensor bad somewhere or could this possibly affect performance. thanks

I have the same issue right now, wish I knew how to pull a code or something. I have a basic code scanner, but there is no check engine light on. What could I get to diagnose this? Thanks

Not really sure about your problems, but does anybody know if its possible to remove it all together? I would LOVE to get rid of it...

You could get rid of it, but that would also as far as I know disable the ABS as well as the two systems are tied together.

SLP makes a "logic box" that plugs in between the switch and harness that keeps the ASR off till you turn it on.

Most likelu cause for the ASR light would be a bad switch or yea a bad sensor.

I really want to get rid of it since its ugly and doesn't really serve me a purpose, however I would like to keep ABS. Couldn't I get the ABS module out of a non ASR car and use it instead, thus retaining ABS?

To do that you would also have to swap out the rear end to get the proper sensor location (located in the center diff on non ASR cars, at the axel ends on ASR cars), re plumb the entire brake system pretty much including proportioning valve, rear hard lines and rear soft line. Also would have to get the computer from a non ASR car as well.

Cars with ASR use a four channel ABS system where as cars with out use a 3 channel ABS system, if you want to do it go right ahead. but to me the expense and effort just isn't worth it. I would just get the switch from SLP.

I removed my sensors and harness for the rear. My ABS still works.

really? I guess the fronts would still work or do all four wheels work?

I wouldn't think you would need to replumb the braking system. Either way, isn't it just one line going to the back with a T on the rear? I have a Moser 12 bolt, so I don't know if that makes a difference as far as the ASR goes. I just want to get rid of that damn box under the hood most...

With ASR as far as I understand the system, each wheel is indipendantly controled. Making for two lines to the rear instead of only one that is teed.

Non ASR cars have the more familure set up you describe. You should be able to tell what you have by craling under and having a look.
