I have a 2002 Trans Am that has a D1SC procharger supercharger. The car runs about 210 just sitting at idle. The air conditioning is off with nothing ealse on. When i turn the air on at idle it will jump up to about to 230-240 in my opionion i think thats too hot, but is that normal with a supercharger? It will even get hot running down the road with the air on!, around 220. I just reciently bought the car and i noticed that it had one electric fan. Does just one come in the supercharger kit? The car was built with no budget in mind. I have invoices that total up to $42,000 in just parts. Any other advice would be helpful to me because this is the first car i own with a supercharger. Thanks in advance! Oh yea i live in lower Alabama where its really hot

Make sure the fan is blowing towards the car. And yes, it comes with one fan.

Any body know how to resolve this problem?

Do you have a 160 thermostat?

I really dont know. I would have to make a phone call to the guy that built the car. Are they hard to install?

Its not that bad. You would also have to reprogram your fans to come on earlier. Make sure the it blow towards the car.

Would the hypertech programer do that?

Yes, but don't use the tuning. Do you have one already? Because HPtuners would be better.

No, but i do need something to at least check the on/off temp. Where can i get the one you are talking about

Few things I would do...and have done....program the fans to come on about 190.....drop a 160 stat in there...and water wetter.....I swear by that stuff...we use to put dishwashing detergent in and see a 10 degree drop...but water wetter is great stuff... http://www.redlineoil.com/products_coolant.asp ...do the above a step at a time....program the fans first to come on around 190....see what happens...then I would use the water wetter.....see what happens...last but not least I would drop in the 160 stat if I was still running over 220 after the first two steps...if not leave the stat alone.....you dont want to be so cool you never go into a closed loop....

How long will it take to pull out the stat to see the temp? Would i be able to identify a 160 stat?

It'll make a mess....take the pressure off the system....get a bucket...should be stamped on it....not a big deal at all...just messy....get another gasket by the way...dont reuse your old gasket....

Here is a fairly well written how to....

HPtuner is an advance program. Which will allow you to tune most everything. But you do have to know what you are doing. www.hptuners.com

If you are not up to it. HPP will do what you need. But also check into the Predator. The best of both.

Ok, will i have to take the ECM out of the car? How much do the tuners cost? Which is cheaper?

No, tuning is down with the PCM in the car.

HPTuners is $500 but you can tune 2 Vehicle Types. Instead of being locked in to one car.

One thing, and this may sound really stupid, but it happened to a friend of mine. Make sure the little plastic air dam under the front bumper is still there. It is VITAL to engine cooling. Coolant temps will jump about 20-30 degrees without it. My buddy ripped his off after it broke over a speed bump... big mistake.

Is the temp you are referring to water or oil temp? These stirke me as high for water temp.

I have a C5R 427 vette running a D1SC, with a good (can't remember the name but it cost a pretty penny as was super well made) double-roow radiator with built in oil cooler. On 100 degree F days it runs up to a final 185degF water/194degF oil on the highway (steady 70 mph), 196degF/208degF at idle or in traffic, with the air off:::: or 190-194degF water/208-212degF oil on the highway, 206-212degF water/235-237degF oil at long idle with the air on. That last oil temp bothers me some.

In order to fit the D1SC and the thicker core radiator, i had to relocate and re-size the fan to a bunch of small ones and I've wondered if I have enough of them.. Don't know how yours are.

Yes, i am refering to the water temp. I assume that the stock radiater is not big enough. What kind of cfm are you pulling through your new one?

I don't know the cfm actually going through the radiator. It's a mess under the hood - even though we have been neat and procedural throughout, we're just running out of room with SC and intercoolers and pipes. The D1SC air cleaner is right up against the back of the radiator. I have three smaller diameter fans mounted in there - not sure what their cfm was rated at by manufacturers, but I'm not sure they can draw well anyway. I've thought of trying to mount more fans and put fans front and back, not sure what to do::: for now I just don't run the AC while I talk to the speed shop about it.

Who makes the radiator that you have? I might need to get me one, but for a T/A!

I can't remember for the life of me. Been trying to think of it. It was a two word persons name like Ron Trip or Ben Jones, company. But it was beautiful and had an integral oil cooler with AN fittings and all. (Oil cooler takes on 3-4 pounds of pressure, too.).

Particularly if you have3 a stroker crank you want to get an oil cooler. The lack of windage gap with a stroker means you beat up the oil pretty badly, I'm told -- one reasons why GM went with dry sump on the LS7 ZO6.

Has anyone tried the electric water pumps - do they push more water faster -- ought to help cooling.

Yes it is still there.
