View Full Version : Shaving the emblems

Question? My friend and i were talking about shaving emblems off cars and mine came up in the convo. what do you guys think about it? on a ws6 i just wouldn't because i personally think everyone who owns a ws6 should be proud to show it but like mine being a ws7 it wouldnt be all factory so its already been tweaked and not as big of a deal removing stuff. i've never seen a 4th gen debadged, seen enough 3rd thanks to knight rider but in that sense how well do you think it could be pulled off with taking off the side moulding, filling in the rear pontiac, removing the filler panel badges, etc.?

I took off all my side molding, TransAm door emblems, WS6 emblem, and blacked out the filler panel between the tails. IMO its a much cleaner look than stock.
I don;t know about filling in the PONTIAC on the bumper though... I don;t think it would look good.

i took the door trim and the trans am on the door off. it gives it a much smoother look.

you could get away with it if you have the ws6 hood, but otherwise badges are the main way people walking by know you have the V8 since most don't know the front bumper/rear bumper differences. that is unless you have a loud exhaust and your car is on.
but this car doesn't really have anything too noticeable. the door emblems are low and aren't really noticed. i never noticed it until i washed the car for the first time.

I do like the trans am working on the door, but removed the side moldings. I have seen a Trans am with the lettering in vinyl on the front fenders over the black side vents in the old skool 70's lettering and it looked awesome IMO.

No. Refering to the piece of rubber that runs down the door....above the Trans Am badging.

Ha...i bet you were looking at it like "who the hell put modeling enamle in this thing?" God...that took like 2 hours to do...then the heat made some of it pull apart.
You should put a white bird/trans am on that filler-it looks aweseome against NBM I wanted to for so long and never got around to it.
how hard is it to take off that rubber molding? I'm interested now as long as there wouldn't be some groove where you could tell something was or suppose to be there

Piece of cake.
No groove left. Just use some kinda of adhesive remover after removing it. Then wax it.
You can see the lack of it here.

i agree, i took the trans am off the doors and its much better. that writing is so tacky looking. its the same script for all the other gm's. im thinking about removing the side moldings too. im not sure if youve noticed but all the blackbirds have the moldings a writing removed. but i would def leave the ws6. ive never seen the poltiac removed off the bumper, but it would be cool. not sure how that would work with the plastic tho?

Ill try to get some pics up of my V-6. The rear filler panel was fading badly. I used some wax and elbow grease and took it off. It looked better IMO. You could still see the bird and 'Firebird' at certain angles due to the slight raises in the plastic, but you would never notice unless you knew it was there.

Don't get me wrong i've thought about it but don't wanna take away from it. its kinda an eye of the beholder thing, some people will like it some won't. most people just say hey nice camaro, don't have a clue what it is. we're all the only ones who really notice the little details and can figure it out its a TA. but IMO now that i've seen the molding and lettering off it does look sleeker. i just dont know if i could do it cause im proud of my trans am but i now do see it can be pulled off nicely. one more thing i might debate doing

To my earlier post, I saw someones car without the side molding or trans am trim and was replaced with a "Trans Am" vinyl over the side vents using the stickers from the old smokey and the bandit t/a's. Made the 4th gen look pretty original. http://www.firebirdgallery.com/2nd%20Gen%20Images/77ta10.2.jpg

This is really the best I have. Car reflects too much to notice much of a difference from a full side view.

a fake/clone ws6.
I resent that. well, the fake part. don't like the term fake, it's a clone. not trying to be fake/poser about it but i don't have the sources for a real ws6 and thats my dream car. maybe i took it the wrong way and maybe you were just clarifying for others but adding on's all i can really do and i wished it was a true ws6, but wouldn't me labeling a ws7 a ws6 and calling it ws6 be fake?

its only a badge man the ws 6 isnt that much dif and if you read on here everyone upgrades the ws6 mods anyway the main thing is the hood if it makes you feel better mine isnt a ws6 either I have a aftermarket hood but true ram air and slp lid.. So in other words even to those with true ws6 it is just an emblem (mine doesnt have an emblem)

I had the Trans Am lettering on the doors painted gold ( I was kind of going for a little bit of Smokey and the bandit Nostalgia), as well as the Bird on the front plate cover and the Pontiac on the Filler area(you can kind of see see on my profile picture but the lighting is kind of bad.). I have gotten nothing but compliments on it. I kept my emblem, even though most people mistake my car for a camaro and have no idea what WS-6 Means... I have since removed the side molding though
