About as fast as a stock 2001+ LS1 F-body. They dyon 330 HP to 345 HP at the wheels but weigh 3-500 more pounds than the F-body. The F-body, however, gats Amazingly better gas milage.

Sorry... i'm a LITTLE bit confused. The GTO weights 300-500punds more than a F-Body? And the GTO has a bad gas mileage? Please explain. :notworthy:

The GTO is a 3800 pound car. Mileage is ok with the 6 speed, but if you drive it hard it is gonna drink the fuel anyway!

Well i dunno bout the GTO's being fast...i have beat 2 of them while i was bone stock and both of them were the 400hp ones. The best i seen at the track out of them was a 9.2, kinda disappointing really.

Are you sure that the others were 400HP Versions? Can it be, that the drivers of the GTO's weren't good? Because official stats say the go 0-60 in 4.6 and a WS6 4.9... i dunno the reality i never seen one of them in Action.

I just picked up a '05 GTO and it is very nice! After doing some spirited driving, SOTP tells me that this car has great potential and is already fast enough that merging onto the highway is not a problem.

Its biggest weakness is that it comes out of the box with poor tires. I have 18" wheels and they come with summer season only tires. They just don't grab as nicely as the performance tires that were on my late Formula. Because it only has 100 miles on the clock I haven't been attempting any hard launches, but I suspect that traction is the first problem that needs to be fixed. :drivin:

12-25-2005, 09:23 PM
yeah i also so the tires & wheels will be a problem on the GTO. the 17" comes with 225!! Thats just 20mm bigger then my wheels on my GTZ! I think with 295 in the Back and maybe 255 in the front the GTO will handle great.
What wheels are stock on the 18"??

I got mine down to 13.25(stock) after the 4th time to the track. First time out was a 13.5x and got progressively better. The more seat time really helps. F-Bodies are easy to drive, as that's what I've had for the last 17 years before getting the goat. Takes a little more thought and finesse to launch a goat right.

There are already a few '05 GTO's running 12.9 completely bone stock. All it takes is a good driver.

On the 18" the tires are 235/40 front and back! I'm not sure why they went wimpy on the tires, but at least that can be solved.

Really small for the LOT of performance the engine will produce! But you say it: Can be solved! I think rims, tires & exhaust shall be the first mods for the GTO.

FreeBird
12-26-2005, 09:57 PM
Yeah, the tires are a bad match for this car's level of performance. The stock tires want to break loose too easily and they are brand new. Imagine what they will be like when they have some wear.

However, it is an easy way to get a nice sounding 2->3 chirp! :burnout:

And a Camaro SS or T/A WS6 weight?
3449lb for a fully loaded all option A4 SS. The GTO comes in at 3787lb.

The power to weight on the two cars is nearly identical, so it would be a driver's race.

SS A4 3449/307rwhp = 11.23 lb/rwhp
GTO M6 3787/338rwhp = 11.20 lb/rwhp

rwhp = rear wheel horsepower

307 is what my previous A4 SS dynoed, an M6 should see about 317rwhp. I've yet to dyno the GTO. Most are seeing high 330s with a few freaks getting close to 350rwhp.

H8machine
12-27-2005, 05:28 PM
Ah OK! Thanks for these interesting stats!! I really wondered about the 400HP. I never saw how much from this HP go to the RW! Thanks. But i think stock "your" SS wins because of the bigger tires! ;)

Hey Guys,

i'm new to your site, and you all make me laugh! (in a good way). I'm from australia and we have heaps of Monaro's (GTO in the rest of the world) putting out 600+kw's. i drive a SS LS1 sedan and it is close to 200rwkw's without alot of mods, just intake, cat back zorst, plugs, leads, oil & filter. keep up the good work and have fun.

next on the modifying list is a set of extractors, cold air induction same as H8Machine's Picture the K&N one, LS1edit and i am hoping for close to 250+rwks 330+rwhp.

My best 1/8 when completely stock/stock tires on my '04 GTO was 8.45@83mph, if that helps you have an indicator of the '04 (ls1) bone stock performance. The 05's have 50 more horses.

I heard somewhere that bigger rims take away horsepower even if they weigh the same as stock. Something about the point of inertia being further away from the center of the wheel. Is this true?

I feel compelled to chime in, the car I owned before my 2006 GTO was a 2002 Camaro SS. Let's compare the two- Ride quality not even close the GTO conquers the open road with gusto compared to the lumber wagon ride quality of my SS. My SS had an aftermarket torque arm, subframe connector's and boxed lower control arms- My GTO so far has just Pedder's gas sport riders struts and shocks along with Pedder's oem springs. As for acceleration the SS seemed faster out of the hole but on the open road my GTO would walk away from it. Last night I decided to test the governer on the GTO, I'm tooling along at 60 mph so I put my foot into it shift from fourth to fifth around 100 and before you know it I'm sailing along at 160 bumping into the governer and all the time the car is glued to the road without a wiggle, it felt like I was doing maybe 120 cause it was so effortless and quiet inside the car.

The GTO dyno's more then 330whp stock.

This is a bone stock '05 on a 100 degree day in Prescott, AZ. That is at 5386ft elevation. Very high and low oxygen.

http://myweb.cableone.net/97bowtie/wheels/gtodyno3.bmp

Another from TX. THis was a 91 degree day, but the elevation was much lower.

If you're talking "STock",the GTO IS FAST! Most haters won't acknowledge the car's potential and usually end up talking "mods". In my book, any car capable of twelves and thirteens right out of the box is fast. Is it the fastest? Depends on who you race.

There are 3 types of programs that are down loaded from the factory to regulate your lead foot ! I am not sure what the exact speed are until the car shuts down. My car was 164 mph. I estimating that 155, 164, and 172 mph. I know 164, and 172 mph are correct. I am not sure of the lowest mph.

Gross vehicle weight on the SRT8 Cherokee is 5850lbs, thats a a little more than a TON heavier than the GTO, and with only 420hp it wouldnt even be a race. Way too many people think that the new Hemi's are street killers like the old Hemi's were, and that just aint the case. Dodge is puttin those things in cars that are really frickin heavy, and it kills the performance potential. Now if the new Challanger is light, with a 425 horse Hemi in it, GM and Ford will both get smoked! As far as F body's I dont know, never owned one and havent found one to race yet. Havent been able to line up against a Cobra yet either, although Id like to - win or lose it would be fun!
