Perfect illustration for why a little internal work is so much better than all the "free up hp" mods you can come up with. There is only so much factory hp to be found in external mods. How about an analogy? It's like he's wearing a her pleasure condom but you took viagra and extenze. . .

i would say Viagra, at least, i had the whole engine rebuilt and new lifters, springs, hardned rods, and arp rod bolts, cam, new intake, blah blah blah

I love knowing some Z owners are willing to put money in their car that you can't see. . .lol. Mine's all stock but prettied up, that's backwards from my last one, it was all performance. Dude, I just noticed you're a post-whore almost equal to the Capt'n :notworthy:

I'm new, still learning who everyone is. I have a '97 and was opposed to the LS1 until my optispark started being a skank, now I have an LS1 also and am beginning to see the light

Man I work at Year One and there is about 5 guys here at work that there Opti Spark all went out within a month of each other. That is a piss poor design. Other than that those cars really don't have any problems.

Oh yeah I love my LT1, 177,000 miles and runnin strong as hell. My biggest problem was that the replacement optispark I got went bad after about 2500 miles, then another one went bad about the same after that one. NO AUTOZONE OPTISPARKS. Warrantied or not it isn't worth changing them all the time, so we went with gm this time and it's workin out fine. I'm selling it though, so I guess it isn't my problem anymore, I just didn't wanna send anyone away with it having any problems that I knew about

call me dumb, but what is optispark?

i kinda know, but I think optispark is a total piece of shit that connects the distributor and GM was really intelligent b/c they put it beneath something that can leak water onto it...HENCE it dies quickly.

its a pain in the ass from what i have heard, and yes it is the ingition system like the coilpacks on the LS1 cars, sorta like the Distruibter

oneBADDz

The optispark IS the distibutor. Is uses a plastic wheel inside of it with 720 tiny ass holes around the perimiter that an infrared eye sees through to time the spark to within half a degree. You couldn't stick half a tooth pick through those holes they are so small and when one gets wet or dirty at all there goes good distributor functioncause the eye can't see through it. Top that off with it being mounted UNDER the water pump. . .you get the picture

anyway, it's an LT1 thing, and most of us were smart enough to buy no LT1 cars

forgive my ignorance but did you say on his mods that he deleted his maf sensor? what is the purpose of that is seams like it would hurt performance. or did you mean the free mod with the resistor wire in the intake air temp sensor? or perhaps a aftermarket airfilter or screen delet on the maf.

MY MAF is also deleted, but i had a tune so did he.

soory but i am failing to see how this would help performance as this is a needed input for the ecm to correctly calibrate the fuel in diffrent driving conditions. please explaine
