Hello boys and girls, I am looking for some help. I recently purchased a 2001 Trans Am Formula. It had the stock hood on it, but I took the OEM functional Ram Air hood off my V-6 and put it on the Formula. So, the air box is NON-ram air. I am looking to change the intake and I am not tied to a price tag for one. Of course, I want as much power as possible.

My friend suggested cutting to lower lid and putting in the SLP lid on it to use the ram air hood to get more air. I was under the impression that the K&N cold air intake would produce more HP and lighten the car just a shade while getting the flow of air from the hood as well.

Anyone, go through the same delima? Any final results? Thanks in advance.

Just use any aftermarket lid. The ram air hood is pretty much just an appearance mod.

Thanks for the input, but I would like to know which one would produce more HP. I live in a tropical climate, and the heat factor with humidity plays a big role here. You can really tell the difference between night and day driving.

You are saying the hood is a cosmetic change, but the factory ram air package had more HP than the ones without. How do you figure that it wouldn't play any role? Plus, when I switched the hood, the ram air hood was a huge weight difference from the flat hood.

I see I was just going by the adds that I have seen when GM was offering the packages in the brochures.

Most lids make similar gains.

I would go with the Volant setup. That, with the plastic removed from the hood will actually be ram air, unlike factory, and will probably produce more power than a lid...
