how to identify them.

I was starting to get out of the hobby but have gotten back now. How do you tell the difference. A shop said my 02 ss had one but I am not so sure.

All 01 & 02 Camaros with LS1's had the LS6 intake on them. Easy way to identify is the lack of the EGR port on the LS6.

Rest assured that the shop was correct. As others already said, ALL 2001-2002 LS1s had the LS6 intake on them from the factory.

x3 shop is correct..no tube going to the top of the intake then you have a ls6..most of the times..slp makes a egr version but nevermind that...on the intake there should be a part number...google that part number and it will let you know if what you have is truly a ls6 intake.

sweet, was debating on a fast or warrior setup but I dont think that 500 bucks is worth it for a 5 hp gain

Not always, there is an SLP LS6 intake out there with the EGR provision. The safest way to identify is by the part number on the driver side of the intake.

To answer the OP question, yes your 2002 has an LS6 intake.

I was looking to do the ls1 to ls6 intake swap on my stock ss (free mods only)....5 horsepower does not seem worth the effort? is it?

Its more like 10-15 RWHP gain and its definitely worth it. As you mod more, you have the ability to have higher HP gains from other mods with the LS6 intake as well.

engines must be able to breathe in more air and get air/gases out as much and as efficient as possible..that is the basis of EVERY! mod to the engine. so it only makes since that a better flowing intake is worth it.

As what said by others, the gaines are more like 10-15. Don't get stuck on Peak numbers though, there's more to picking up power and speed than that. The LS6 intake will also change your power band, adding a good bit of power in the upper RPMs, where the stock intake starts to fall short.

the Ls6 intake is a joke, especially after going to a H/C setup. i speak from personal experience. i gained 35rwp/10rwtq OVER the POS Ls6 intake i had on the car when i swapped it for a FAST 90/90...

dont waste your money, or the time. take it from someone who's been there...

sure the price you can pick up an Ls6 intake for is sweet candy, but by the time you either send in your TB to have it P&P or buy a larger TB, it starts to add up. sure some may say it's overkill on a basically stock Ls1, but if your plans dont call for your car to stay stock, save up for a FAST, get it, and do it right the 1st time...

however, if you plan to go forced or nitrous, stick w/the Ls6 since it is a stronger unit. i have seen to many FAST that have had their top shells blown apart/off...

that problem is suposed to be fixed now with the 90/90 replacement (the new 92/92) they have some special new material ect ect.

I didn't know that. I guess you learn something new every day, even at my age. Thanx!

No problem, those SLP LS6 intakes with the EGR provision are not highly populated, rare to encounter one, but they do exist :)
