What are the benefits from and exhaust cut out? Better sound and air flow?

I agree and disaggree, YES they do flow the best..
but with sound, I think they sound great if your still running stock headers and cats, one you go long tubes and remove the cats, an exhaust cutout should only be opened up for a race!!

Better flow? Yes. Better sound? Depends on your definition of "better"...to some, louder is better. It will definitely be louder.

You will loose some bottom end, but you will gain top end.

Or get a electric cutout and keep it closed for bottom-end torque....then open that baby up when you're rippin the gears.

Cheap - won't cost too much to try one. Definitely louder open even with stock headers/cats - used to have a lot of fun with my electric one until I broke it. :( Still open mine once in a while manually, not that much trouble. Makes my car rattle a lot more in the winter when open though, and when I get tired of it being loud I just cap it. :)

Will the cutout improve hp with everything else being stock? Computer wont go crazy etc? The electric cut out seems like the cheapest and funnest of bolt ons. I guess you just cut the pipe and stick it in there right- welding optional I suppose.

yes you will see about 10hp, some will say you loose power on the bottom but gain it on the top. I felt mine all the way through!!
just dont think like the imports, that loudness = fastness.
also a cutout isnt that loud on a factory system. It does sound good!

I logged "Delivered Torque - Engine" with my
McCord open and closed, it made no difference
until about 5000RPM at which point the "open"
torque line started to hold up better than closed.
It only removes the muffler restriction, on my
setup. Someone with headers and a catted Y
would probably gain more with a pair before the
cats. I have a single 3" back by the axle. It does
sounds like ass, ricer style, at low RPM but is
nice and raucous at 3K & above. It opens a bit
slow to be screwing with it during a race, you
need to plan ahead by a couple of seconds.
Better than fiddling with wingnuts lying on your
back, though. Especially at speed. :)
