84 vette auto trans?

my dads got an 84 vette with and auto trans and its not shiftin right.
first gear is ok but will not upshift into second, let off the throttle and it shifts to third.
if i manually shift into 2 feels like in neutral.
vehicle sits during winter but get started up occasionally.said that last week it drove fine and now all the sudden just happened.
do you think it could be something simple or 2 is gone?

2 is probably gone, which means the others aren't far behind it either. Time for a rebuild :(

Do you still have 4th gear (overdrive)?

pulled out about a quart of trany fluid, replaced with lucas stop slip and 2 in comin back slow.
could it be just an internal seal that had dried up when not driven, or am i just hoping its back for good.
still have 4th,
after the stop slip drove for 20-30 miles and and 2 starts to engauge when in 2, floor it and down shifts to 1. manally engaged 1-4. not smooth but all egaged.

I'm hoping you are lucky, but I'd say your tranny is not long for this world. Stop slip does help, but normally prevents the tranny death for just a little while. So I’d start saving for a rebuild.
