I just bought a 2000 formula. I noticed a noise coming from the rearend. I read that the rearend is the common weak point in these cars. Is this true? Can this be fixed without spending a fortune? What is the replacement parts?

it almost sounds like a grinding noise...at first i thought it could be my rotors...but i inspected them and they are fine...i mainly hear it at low speeds...probably because the exhaust drowns it out i guess...

grinding is never a good sign..you can take off the diff cover and see if you have any metal flakes or anything..or jack the rear up and spin the tire and see if it might get it to make the noise ..it might have to be under load to grind tho so dont get be surprised if it doesnt but if it doesnt get a sound clip and post it on here ..

i have a 2000 ta and i have a rear end noise and i came to find out that it was coming from the ring and pinion gears i am planning on replacing the whole rear end for a 12 bolt i have heard that it is way better than spending money on the 10 bolt
