Hi,
My car has 54,400 miles on it, and I bought it back in November 2006 with 45,000 miles.
Should I change the Trans Fluid, or are the miles too high?
People have told me that if the miles are to high and you change the fluid, the transmission will slip.
I also don’t know if the previous owner had the transmission fluid changed, or if the Dealership changed it sometime. :dunno:
The fluid looks fine, should I change it now, or wait?
Thanks!
Miles are not too high, I would do it at 50,000 or 60,000 depending on how the fluid looks. Take it to a trans shop and have them do a power flush and filter change.

miles are never too high to change the fluid...........you can save some $$$ and do it yourself not hard at all, if you got lots of $$$ then take it somewhere and get it flushed also
You can most certainly change the fluid in the pan and the filter on your own.The only thing is when you do that all you are replaceing is about 25% of the fluid, so if the fluid looks pretty good this will be perfectly fine. The fluid should not be any color other than red or if you pull the dipstick and smell the tip of it and it smells bunt at all then I would highly recomend doing a flush ,which will give you 100% all new fluid. The service runs between 120 and 200 depending on where you go.

I checked the fluid again yesterday and it is a light pink color. :)
And it doesn’t smell burnt or anything. :)

If it pink flush it , if its brown change the filter and save for a trans

The fluid looks new, light pink / red.
I don’t have a lot of money, so I don’t want to waste it.
Do you think if I contacted the Dealership and asked them to look up my car, could they tell me everything they serviced? That was back in November 2006.
Do they keep service records of that kind of stuff?
