I love the body lines, but that grill his hideous! good thing there's aftermarket stuff for that. (if we ever see production)
Hopefully it won't be delivered as a front wheel drive V6 with an SS version having a turbo on the v6.

i'm not very impressed personally. the hood is too long and it looks too much like a caddy. 98-02 looks 10x better IMO.
also, it's clearly just built up on a caddy chassis, so if they do put it into production, it's either gonna need a new chassis or it's gonna be quite a bit more expensive than the 4th gen was.

So how long do you think it's going to be before GM fires the team of faggots running around making every car they come up with look like it has razor edges?
Isn't the Aztec a horribly selling vehicle. Being it was one of the first styled that way you'd think they may have taken note of it and went another direction.
What happened to designing cars with style and grace? Too bad they didn't take Kris Horton's approach.

Often when they build a clay model (which is what these pictures are) they build half a design on one side and a different half on the other rather than two complete and seperate models. Saves time pretty much and it lets them get a feel for what looks better still.
toneloc60
12-08-2005, 12:56 PM
Yeah, I was going to say that too. I think they have two ideas cooking to see which one they like best.
One side is the design submitted by Shick, the other was submitted by Gillete (the best a man can get).

I dont see them building it. GM is in too much financial trouble to build a car for a small market. I think their efforts will probably be spent in the familt passenger side before anything is dumped into another camaro. I read in another post something that GM has not even inquired with suppliers yet about parts, dont know if that is true but still I wont hold me breath on this car.

good point. I remember reading that GM quit making the Fbodies b/c the stockholders wanted them to sell vehicles that sell and the Camaro/Firebird platform wasn't anymore.

Well, I don't see too many Azteks running down the road either. Since GM doesn't do very well with the decisions it makes, maybe they should simply study what Dodge and Ford have been up to.
The Charger and the Mustang aren't having any problems selling. Neither is the 300. RWD with a V8. At least turn the Impala back into a RWD car! WTF is the use of 330 HP in a Wrong Wheel Drive car? Give me a break.
Get back to the basics.
91Z28
12-08-2005, 03:03 PM
They are going to have to build it. Chrysler has taken a big chunk of the pie when it comes to passenger cars. How did they do it? By having performance versions of pretty much all of their models. Peformance is selling right now, they better get this out there while the market is still hungry for it.

That's pretty funny. Everyone always says something about how F*rd is atleast building a pony car, and selling a crapload of them. Well, they're in as much financial trouble (even more so, since they ARE smaller) as GM is.

I like it. I was afraid of a retro design, but this isn't too retro. I hope the IRS stays too. Not crazy about the instrument cluster though. However, if the rest of the car comes out looking close to this, and they get the powertrain right, I'll buy one.

oh and about the camaro... i think it MIGHT happen... if i remeber correctly they are doing a GTO facelift... i think it will all depend on that... if it does well they will release the camaro, but from the concepts i have seen the GTO will bomb... so im gonna say no go on camaro..

T Tops didn't appear in F bodies until the late 70s, around 1978 I think, I'd have to double check my Camaro book. T tops actually appeared on the third generation Corvette first.

It looks OK, but i like the orange model that the college kid put together better. The post says "2009" though. All this time they were saying 2007, but now it's not coming until 2009? Hell GM will be bankrupt by 2009 with all the POS's they are producing. Like someone else already said, GM claimed the Camaro/Firebird wasn't selling...it's funny that I saw A LOT more F-Bodies driving around than Mustangs and Ford didn't discontinue their car! Chevy threw all their stock into that SUV craze and it's biting them in the a$$ right now cause that's over. And their is a lot of cars not selling, yet they continue to build it...starting with that piece of crap Cobalt. But it doesn't matter if they do release the Camaro, GM will do something to screw it up. More than likely if it comes out, us normal guys won't be able to afford it cause they'll charge $40,000 for it!

The first thing they need to do is make it instantly recognizable as a Camaro, with some of each generation in the lines. The chassis should be a vast improvement over the now extinct Fbodies. Engine should be Corvette with SS having the Z06 motor.
ReBop
12-10-2005, 02:10 PM
The basic Camaro should have a 5.0 V8 with auto tranny, 17" wheels. Hardtop, T-top and convertible options. For girls and gay boys.
The Z-28 should share the C6 engine with 18" wheels. T-top or Hardtop, no verts. Mid price to target former Fbod tuner/mod/street racer types.
SS to get the Z06 engine, slightly detuned of course!, 20" wheels. Hardtop only with roll bar cage, true duals, strut tower, subframes and independent suspension as standard equipment. For the elite who want it all. No further mods necessary.

Ok so all of this shit is for real? This is actually a real concept car? Why the fuck did it just pop out of no where. I can't believe there wasn't any discussion of this before? I thought the camaro was going to be dead for a long time because GM canceled the RWD program ( I forgot what it was called ).
I agree with a lot of your guys statements though. IF the camaro comes back. This is just a concept. There will be a huge amount of changes. But they're doing the same thing ford did. Retro styling. Which I think is dumb . to me the new mustang looks like a riced out verison of the 500GT. Esteticly thats what the new mustang is.
That concept looks like a riced out verison of a first gen camaro. I kind of like it. It's kind of growing on me to tell you the truth. but still. I highly doubt seeing any of this happening. I'll believe it when I see it.

Why does the SS HAVE to have the most power and best suspension? I by no means have anything against the SS but, the first gen SS had a bigger engine than the Z/28 but the Z made more power and had better options. There was even alot of years that the SS was never even built and all of the sudden in '93 it is back with a power bulge hood that the Z/28 has had forever and has the better performance. I think that the Z should have the most power.

guess you haven't heard of the 03/04 cobras? and I guess they aren't faster than 4th gen fbodies or the current gtos?
Gm fucked up with the 4th gen camaros...I NEVER remember seeing one ad for them on tv or anything(and I was 14-18 during that time of the ls1 run with the fbody). Its funny i was talking to my friend because him(he drive a turbo dsm) and i are both shocked that the car hasn't been made for 3 years now and people still don't know the potential in these cars. that is because the lack of advertisement. The fastest car you can get for around 20k right now is the srt4...a base z28 cost the same price new and was slightly quicker. So, if they do bring back the camaro...it'll sell like shit again because they won't advertise it and the only people buying them are people who know what they can do already.

Yea really, first time I EVER set eyes on an 4th gen firebird (seen a couple of 3rd gens but wasnt into muscle cars at the time) was a red TA blackbird. I was like god damn what is that?! That's funny, I seem to remember ads on TV for the new 305 HP Z28 (circa late '97-98). I also remember ads for the Trans Am where it was basically snorting other cars through its ram air like Robert Downey Jr. to a line of cocain. Remember the "The Muscle Car is Back" ads??? Pontiac's Driving Excitement phase.
Trust me, the ads were out there.

I think the car looks good. A little retro styling. But it looks very heavy.

I just want to say it's sad to hear all the people bitching and making negative comments on this subject. Scott and all the guys at GM have been working their asses off to get something out there for us and on the first hit of whats to come people are already complaining. Guys we have to remember that these were stolen pictures of an unfinished concept car and before we start passing judgement we should just wait for detroit. Sorry for ranting because a lot of people love what they saw, but just like anything else it only take a few assclowns to mess it up for everybody. I'm sure people are now going to attack me for this post, but I'm just stating the truth

I say forced with a wooden stick! lol. Im glad to see some concept pics ( even if its not finalized models) but the camaro name isnt gonna get me in mood to save up for a 5th gen, if it doesnt have the camaro look.

The only commercials I ever saw on TV for the camaro were the ones where some chick is driving a V6 on some windy roads. I think that might have been the 93-97 era, but I'm not sure.
I do remember the T/A commercials, but those only started in 98... GM has done a VERY poor job of advertising the F-body! I agree that, that was a big factor in lack luster sales...

Trust me, the ads were out there.
well..they weren't put towards the right crowd then cause i went to a rich high school and kids were driving brand new m3s and shit, but no one had a ls1.its funny..now when i see them now a days and they see my car..they thinks its slow.... so its obvious that they did a poor job of advertising. I see a mustang ad in a mag or on tv like ever other day.

I don't think people are neceesary bashing GM for trying (at least I'm not). I think most people are bashing GM for discontinuing the car in the first place, and then give us consumers nothing but BS reasons as to why it was discontinued. They did do a very poor job of advertising, and gave the impression of "We don't really care about that market" which caused a lot peolpe to loose faith in GM doing the right things to it's consumers. I personally like just about all the concept pictures that are floating around, but the level of trust for GM to actually produce something that is good looking, powerful, and affordable has gone down the drain for most people. Based on their current reputation the new Camaro will either be underpowered due to emmision restrictions and gas mileage restrictions, OR it'll be overpriced. That seems to be GM's moto based on their current fleet of cars: Underpowered or Overpriced...take your pick.

advertising isnt everything. you can tell by peoples reaction to this photo. you either love it, or not. gm discontinued the f bodies because they were selling like 30k units a year at best while mustangs where double that. dont get me wrong, i cant stand most crapstangs, but they did sell alot more, for whatever reason.

I can't believe the negative reactions here, I think the clay concept looks extremely badass, I can't wait to see a more finalized version come early January when the real concept get's shown at the NAIAS in Detriot.
A new Camaro based off that design coming in around 3500lb with a LS2-level engine will be badass, especially if they can reach Mustang GT price levels...

I'd say the Mustand sold more because they had a very high female market. The Mustang is a sports car without enough HP to get away from a female driver. Not trying to sound shovenistic before anybody starts bashing me, but it's true. Compare the number of girls you saw driving LS1's and compare that to the woman driving Mustangs. The LS1's are intimidating to a lot of woman cause they are too powerful. My fiance was scared to drive mine but wanted to buy a Mustang cause it wasn't as powerful!

It would be nice but it won't happen. Everyone thought the same about the GTO. Thought this was gonna replace the Firebird and remain a cheap hotrod...instead it's released looking like crap and costing close to $35,000.00. I see GM charging close to $40,000 for a fully-loaded Camaro with a LS2 style engine. I'm curoius to see what engine they put in it cause they ain't gonna let it get close to their pride-and-joy Corvette.

I would have to disagree with you on this one. I don't think it's about power at all but more about the design and ergonomics of the two cars. V6 cars have always sold more than V8's on both platforms. I think Women prefer the Mustangs basically because they are a more friendly happy design. The Camaro/Firebird is a more cramped unforgiving style. Kind of the 'slap you in the face and get out of my way' philosophy vs the 'I'm Cute' one.
I think the V6 vs V8 thing goes right to cost vs desire. Most buyers look at the two price tags and those that don't care how fast it'll go pick the cheaper one.
