i was making a left on the road i live on and this mustang gt is making a right, well i knew it was on because almost every mustang owner thinks they have the fastest cars ever built, well sure enough he hits it so i hit it. it was so pathetic i had to let off of the gas to keep from running into him about three times for about a 1/4 mile till we got to a turn. well not much of a race i know but it was only the second time i ran anyone in my ws6 and it really wasn't that good because we were on a single lane road. but most roads were i live are single lane.

i know lol. its just funny when ppl are all about manual being so much better than auto...
i know a certain member on this board who thinks a stock 04 mustang gt will beat my car just cuz its a manual and im an auto. apparently, the extra gear that the 5speed has over my 4 speed auto makes up for a ~65hp difference... :thinkin:

Nice kill. After a good (victorious) run against a blown 2003 GT this weekend, a guy in a lightly modded GT passed by on the road and revved up at me as I was waiting to turn out of my apartment complex....unfortunately, it wasn't even worth giving chase.

From my experience 99-04 GTs -- well for me to lose to a stock one-- I would have to seriously misshift (maybe even multiple times), Or start off in 2nd gear? lol
05-08GT-- miss a gear and you are beat- (unless you are racing passed lets say 120,, by then the missed gear shouldn't matter much) unless you took all day finding the missed gear...

Yea there is a lot of stang owners down here too but most of them have V6s and dont race or is not worth racing. But I do have some friends who do drive them and they are pretty cool, even people I dont know with mustangs seem pretty cool down here (fyi im talking about having atleast a V8 stang, only guy i personally know with a v6 is a ricer lol) Yea they are slower then us stock but I can still respect them both our f-bodies has our ups and downs same with the stangs.

I still like Mustangs and the last run of Thunderbirds (not the retro ones). Stock, the 'Stangs have one of the most unique exhaust notes of any car and they are quite fast, faster than most people are capable of handling properly. Is a stock LS1 faster? Mechanically-speaking, yes, but add in the driver and that could be more or less of an advantage.
A few months ago I saw a Cobra at a parts store that was heavily modded and capable of over 650 rwhp. A lot of money was invested in that car and the owner was rightfully proud of it. Could my 350 or so rwhp LS1 take it in the 1/4? No, not unless a lot of things went right for me and a lot went wrong for him. So what? I drive mine every day and he was at the parts store trying to solve a bad miss that the car had developed. Up to that point, I didn't have anything negative to say about him or his car.
He started talking about street racing and it was obvious that he was big into that. I just kept my mouth shut, as the conversation didn't involve me. When I left the store and was getting in my car, he came out the door and looked over my way. He gave me kudos on my car, and I did the same for him. That Cobra was definitely top-notch and spotless. He cares for that car, no question. Sans the "miss" problem, I would have loved to have had that Cobra too!!! American muscle, and I always find an appreciation with that. Two care dudes (him more than me probably) just enjoying what is there in front of us, the way it should be.
He didn't challenge me to a street race, and I didn't threaten to seize his car and lock him up. Just two guys with a mutual interest. As far as saying Mustang owners are jerks, I'm sure some are but I doubt most are any different than LSx folks. Hell, there are a few members here who are about as obnoxious as they come.
Need I say more?

:bravo: I own an 86' Thunderbird, and even though I know it isn't fast I still love it and take care of it. No matter what kind of car someone owns it's how they care for it and enjoy it that matters - not the company logo that determines how someone acts. On top of all that too, it's true, Ford is a great American company and it's nice to see Americans still driving American cars. As much as anyone here may hate Mustangs, try to think of it from that standpoint - at least Ford is an American company (yes I know US car manufacturers make stuff overseas in factories too, and vise-versa, that's not what I'm talking about in this).
I love my Ford and I love my Pontiac. :luvlove:

"My brother owns a 99 LS1, auto. only mod is a catback. He is going to go full bolt on route...heads/cams yada yada. But i drove the car how it sits now, and let me tell you...i bet you that thing would have gave me a run when i had every bolt on in the book before the blower"

I wonder of GT owners say anything about us?
I've been cruising the mustang boards and this board since 2000. At that time, there weren't any cars produced any where near the price range of the LS1 that could run like one... I mean nothing that wasn't exotic. The new Mustang Cobras ('99s) were working out bugs and were still running mid-high 13s after the factory bugs were fixed. The car cost around $30k new, and at the same time you could buy a 1LE camaro with an LS1 that'd walk away from any stock Cobra for about $20-23k if memory serves. The mustang GT just received performance upgrades to try and keep up but still only made 260hp rated and the LS1s made 305 under rated.
At that time, from my perspective, I think you'd have found the attitudes completely reversed. LS1 guys called BS on every story that involved a faster car. People fed up with that attitude started calling the LS1 the "motor that god built" or some such variation. I can't even begin to tell you how fun it was to have a H/C/I 302 actual c.i. engine n/a that would embarrass LS1s. Won a little money and LS1 owners wouldn't believe that I wasn't stroked or didn't have nitrous hidden etc...
Except for the new mustang owners who drove a cobra with an over rated (before the recall) 320hp '99, and the new-at-the-time GTs that made a whopping 260hp, most mustang owners drove around in GTs that made a fraction of the power that LS1s made. It was a little depressing in the mustang community. 5.0s were still the undisputed king of the aftermarket industry and even with that a guy had to know what he was doing to get his Heads/cam 5.0 to outrun stock LS1s.
At that time, a lot of LS1 owners were arrogant and cocky, and couldn't accept that any other car short of forced induction could compete with them. Since then, it seems they've/we've mellowed out a little. I guess that's the way it goes when you drive the stand out performance car of the era. It tends to make people think that it is exceptional when the truth is that it's just a production car. Perhaps because mustangs don't have any direct competition they've gotten arrogant, or maybe that's just a skewed perception from the few arrogant mustang owners you've run into.
I'd recommend that you take it as a learning point. If you think you're fast, there's always someone out there waiting in earnest to show you otherwise. So stop trying to be. No one is going to like you for your car. Make it faster because it's fun to do so, not because you want to impress anyone. The way I see it is that we should just have fun together over a common hobby instead of at the expense of another's pride. That said if you have a little to much pride I might get a little satisfaction from bringing you back down to earth :box: :D

Chris
chris, it was a joke when i quoted you before, you took it the wrong way. and yeah i think my car is fast but i was not on here boasting about how fast it is or trying to impress anyone, and i certainly know it's not anywhere near as fast as most of the guys on here are turning. i merely posted a thread about a run in that i had with a mustang gt, and it felt good to push him down the road after all of the gt owners i run in to act like they have the "motor that god built". so no hard feelings i hope.

I would love to have an 04 GT with a T-56 and LS1 swap, but I will miss the t-tops but have great suspension. IDK too many ups and downs with the f-body vs. stang argument.
so what are the "ups" of a mustang

so what are the "ups" of a mustang
I can think of some nice things about them and play devils advocate (not being sarcastic):
1) Easy to find to purchase and still make new models
2) Also has a huge aftermarket support like the LS1 cars
3) Some prefer the looks of a mustang over an F-body
4) .... umm
I know there has to be more, I just can't think of any right now; probably just me being absent minded? :D

Gimme a break! Does it make you feel better when you say that to yourself in the mirror? I'll bet you ran off and fondled yourself after you wrote that...haha
You are driving an F-body, not a Ferrari. A few more heads turn when I drive my vette as opposed to my mustang, but it's not a drastic difference. In fact, I think more people look at the stang because they are fond of it, and more people look at the vette because they are jealous or automatically assume I'm a prick for driving it at the age of 24 (when I bought it). Some people ask me what I do to afford a $50k car... I'm like get real dude, I'm in the military. The car's not worth as much as you think. It cost me $19k for it a year and a half ago. The price was still a little high for the year even then, but it had low mileage - 22k.
Anyway, the point is, maybe 10% of people on the road turn their head to look at my car, and about 5% turn and look for no apparent reason when I'm driving my beat-up 1990 GMC Suburban. Drive your car because it's fun to drive... other than kids, people don't really care unless it's an exotic, anyway.
And don't make out like it's better than a mustang for its rarity. The only reason it's "less common" is because it didn't sell..... *ducks and runs for cover*

i don't know chris, i will get a crowd of people gather around my car almost every other time i go to a gas station. i think it's because you just don't see t/ams anymore and ws6's are even less common to come by. you have to think as well, you have a vette and a mustang, and no offense but mustangs are like assholes everyone has one. as far as the vette, i like them but if you've seen one you've seen them all, they have looked pretty much the same for the last 15 years.

I still like Mustangs and Corvettes, but the F-bodies do tend to be more noticeable due to their finite numbers. My Z28 happens to "scream" with its color and stripes though. And it seems like F-bodies are much more likely to be modified than Corvettes. That doesn't apply to 'stangs, but then again they are much more plentiful.
All I know is I look at 'em all, and can appreciate what the owners have done.

i like that hugger orange with the white stripes. a guy up the road just sold one the same color but it was a 68 with a 327. i stopped to look at it but he wanted 18,000 for it which in my opinion was a little too much for that particular camaro, it had some bubble spots around a couple fender wells. now if it had a 396 in it and was an ss, oooooh yeah.

You should see the looks when a soon-to-be 43 year old gets out with two young kids!!!
The other day a young guy working at Wal-Mart was getting the buggies when I pulled up. As I got out, he offered me some kind words about the car and I thanked him, mentioning I bet he thought a younger guy drove it. He said that he expected a nineteen or twenty year old, and then i joked that I was twenty-three.
He looked puzzled.:bino:

You get what you pay for, and that sounds too good to be true. Caveat emptor!
I get what you're saying. Most Corvettes are run of the mill. The cars are cool, but usually the drivers are old, or are perceived to be pricks. Guys driving Camaros and Firebirds are more likely to modify them, and maybe I've just been gone for too long. I'm still in Iraq and between train-up and deployment, I haven't seen the road very much in the last year. Still, I just don't remember feeling that there weren't many F-bodies on the road.
To tell you the truth, I always liked the look of the Firebirds TAs and liked the obnoxious Ram-Air WS6 even more. The styling on the Camaro was always on the bland side to me. I won't say that about the new Camaro, though. Ford struck gold with their retro-styled mustang, and now the Challenger and Camaro are going retro, too. I sense good times ahead. Both of those cars are knockouts! I love the styling on both, and I think we'll see plenty of great stoplight showdowns in the future. I might have to put a couple of bolt-ons on the vette to stay ahead of the new Camaro... I'm pretty excited.
